I think that's true, but the main thing is understanding use of the hands on the line. Strength obviously factors in, but those little nuances with the hands are the main thing. Smitty could play the X spot as well as any big guy, and so can OBJ. Honestly, from what I saw with Philly last year, he wasn't bad at getting off of jams in the few times he lined up on the LoS. Wasn't lining up on a Revis ever who will dominate you at the line, but I think he could develop that ability, adding to his high ceiling and ability to play any wideout position, like Funchess.

All makes sense.

From what I've heard, if you're serious about being a pro, that it's like getting a PhD. The amount of study time, cramming and learning new languages should coordinators change...except you have a test every Sunday and you have to rest your body. I've seen Ray Lewis at his house (on tv...I wasn't at his house) watching film on his tv. And bringing teammates over to his house...not for a cook out...but to watch tape and talk about it.

That's like studying with your friends after you get done studying. The great ones take competition and dedication to a whole new level. And I think that is kinda what DG was talking about when he was saying how impressed they were with football IQ (and how they tested it during visits) and how important it was to find a guy that not just wanted to win...but HATED to lose. That hatred is what will drive a high football IQ guy to go home after studying film all day to study some more film with his teammates.

I'm really liking how this team is shaping up.

We laugh and joke about how obsessive Luke is, but nobody's laughing when you see the results.

If you had a whole team of guys like that...

The Patriots have made a living off of drafting smart players for a long time.

And honestly, I can't blame Gettleman for going that route.  Have you ever sat trying to explain something to someone that clearly just didn't get it?  Then at some point they tell you they've got it, and when you watch them it's clear they don't.

Frustrating as hell.

What's the saying, ah yes.

I can explain it to you, I can't understand it for you.

I can see 3 different line ups that can actually put a little scare into DC's this year.

This depends on development of players and with good word coming out of OTA's maybe Hill is the hidden gem that a lot of us hoped he would be when we picked him up.

Line up #1 KB - outside, Funch - outside, Brown - slot, and Greg at TE

Line up #2 KB - outside, Hill - outside, Funch - slot, and Greg at TE .... This would be the Skyscapers package

Line up #3 KB - outside, Hill - outside, Funch - slot and Brown - slot .... This would be the NASCAR package for the Offense

YYZ is where it's at.

Just saw them the other night in Greensboro for the R40 touring.  In my opinion their sound guy needs to be shot, totally ruined the first set.  Geddy's bass was just this booming sound, no discernible notes.  The second set was better.  They played Camera Eye, Cygnus X-1 and Xanadu, so I was an extremely happy camper.

You know it does bring up a question that I could have asked, but didn't.  Probably should have (Thanks).

For those who have read about these roles and what they do, who do you see as the best choices for:

- The Number One

- The Number Two

- The Slot Receiver

...and why?

Throw in those 2 TE sets and empty backfield sets and then it gets really confusing.  Being a LB, S, FS, and DB in this league is a lot harder than people realize I think.

Don Coryell definitely knew what he was doing all those years ago.

I've said before that I think KB is best suited at #2 bc he likes the contact off the line. I don't know if Funch is a #1 but I'll assume it. As for #3, I view that position in the mold of a Wes Welker type or Ricky Proehl. In that light I'd have to say Corey Brown could be our best bet. But I think myopically about WR3 and someone smarter than I could be more creative and use Hill if he turns out to be legit. But I'd be very happy if they all turn out and we have the option to use multiple packages as was stated earlier.

Something tells me this would be a popular choice.

And I'm framing this as a base package.  Obviously there'll be plenty of variations.
