making it work doesn't mean higher scoring.

the way he runs an offense takes tons of time off the clock on each possession. more time taken during possessions limits the number of possessions you can have during a game. limited possessions means limited scoring opportunities. limited scoring opportunities means limited points.

Helps our defense. Not necessarily defending the slow pace ground and pound offense, but the inferior talent in 2013 on offense did well enough to help out our defense to make it #2 over.

Limited possessions for us, and for the other team.

If were efficient we'll come out on top. I see our offense and defensive personnel better this year than 2013

In talking about the pairing of Funch with KB, does anyone see KB's WR1 title being stripped with Funch being more productive? It's obvious KB is by no means a burner; he creates seperating thru his size, height and arm legth. So if Funch really is faster in game speed and runs better routes than KB right from the gate, it could be possible that his production could be more; not necessarily in TDs but in receptions and yardage... thoughts?

I think Funch having played TE, slot and outside both in college and taking reps in rookie/OTA's will help more than anything.  Funch is faster, more fluid and has better jumping skills, but that's all nothing if he can't adjust to a pro-style WR scheme.  Recognizing coverage before and during the play and shifting to be on the same page as your QB is why the WR position is one of the hardest for rookies to learn.  Funch playing multiple positions already, will help him better understand coverages and where he should be.  If Funch picks it up as well as KB did, then he's primed to take over #1.  Maybe not on paper, but possibly through production.

I think some people don't realize that, just because we run ball control, doesn't mean we can't score a lot.  IIRC, last season we were able to move the ball very efficiently, between the 20's.  The big problem was, we weren't scoring TD's, we were settling for FG's... and missing some of those.  We also had our fair share of 3-and-outs, but that's not a product of a ball control offense, that's just lack of execution/talent.

If we have the ball for 9 mins, and score a TD, then our defense forces a 3-and-out, we have an opportunity to score again in that quarter.  If you have a good defense, a ball control offense can still easily score 14+ points per quarter, depending on how good the opposing defense is.  Even if you just averaged 10 points per quarter, you're scoring 40 points per game.  That's a shitload of points, and it's not even remotely out of the realm of possibilities for a ball control offense.

Exactly. Ball control teams can and have been very, very good. And we finally have the pieces to make it work, even better than 2013.
