He still wouldn't be subpar. He was decent, slightly above average NFL QB. Not great, but certainly not subpar.

Par is a golf term. In golf the object is to score as low as possible. That would be subpar, so in golf terms it was a complement.

Ryan is not a bad QB, but just like Stafford, he is the beneficiary of one of the greatest situations in football.  He had Roddy White in his prime and Julio Jones in his prime, a great 3rd option in both of which at their peak are top 5-10 receivers, he also had Tony Gonzalez for a few good seasons, and oh yea Harry Douglas wasn't bad himself.  Matty Flaccid and Stafford really mirror each other in many ways by having great receiving situations, but to this date I have yet to see either of them truly lead their team.  All of the talent in the world doesn't reproduce what Cam went through with the injuries last year and fully morphing into the leader of this team.

Ryan is such an enigma at QB, he puts up nice stats yet I feel like he's always under performing.

I know because 73 is better than 77. It's really just a popularity contest, Cam's fame will take him to the top, Peyton Manning will be in the top 20 after his massive off year, and the Brandon Grahams and Will Hills of the league will get snubbed.

Matt Ryan is a good regular season QB just like Peyton Manning.  Except Manning could at least carry his weak-ass team into the playoffs every year.  Ever since Michael Turner left the Falcons have been terrible.  Really showed how valuable he was.  He definitely carved up the Panthers run D too many times.  If they get back to running the ball, the Falcons could be good again.  But Matt Ryan isn't good enough to carry them on his own like Manning was.

Matt Ryan is certainly better than Dalton, Kaepernick, and Cutler. He should for sure be on the list.

I really dislike the Falcons but Ryan deserves to at least be in the  2nd tier.
