He was a key piece of their vaunted 11 safety Defense that took the league by storm last year.

Apparently he played in the Canadian Football League before the Saints picked him up last year. Doesn't sound like he was bad but that the Saints felt like they were stacked at Safety. Not sure I agree with that but that's what the article I read said.
