N.C. Sen. Bob Rucho questions Panthers ticket increases

top dawg

If that was the case, where are the decreases when the team sucks like a Hoover? We have more of those seasons (and actually got ticket price increases following horrible seasons) than the good ones, yet we've never gotten a refund or price reduction.

Why didn't people stop buying them?

The salary cap goes up in direct proportion to their profits, it has no effect on ticket prices. You want to argue increases for taxes, inflation, etc you'd at least have an argument for some increases.

My point was not necessarily the salary cap itself, but the fact that NFL salaries are about 4 times higher than they were 20 years ago.  And that is the just the players, doesn't include coaches, GM's and every other team employee.  Salary certainly have significant impact on ticket prices.

Luxury jobs become more luxurious

How much should an athlete make to the standard blue collar/average worker? Is an athlete more valuable to society then the blue collar/average worker?

Do 70,000 people watch a blue-collar worker make a sales call? And do millions more tune in on TV? This isn't that hard to figure out.

1995: $50.00 per seat per game

2015: $120.00 per seat per game (not including almost $100.00 in handling fees & sales tax for 2 seats)

I'd say more than a cost of living thing. Product of supply & demand ..... or greed.

Pie for your "It's not a mystery, senator. I just chock it up as an offshoot of the disingenuous theory of trickle down economics, Mr. Rucho. The rich get richer, and the working man gets screwed." comment.

1995 average new car price $15,500

2015 average new car price $30,303

1 gallon of gas 1995: $1.16

1 gallon of gas 2015: $2.74

Seems to be pretty on par with price increases.

How much of an increase do senators get in thier pay every year? That a real question he should be asking.

edit: A republican questioning the free market and capitalism?

Didn't the Senators become the Twins or Rangers or some other baseball team?  And why are we talking about Baseball anyway in a football forum?  :)

Considering NFL teams are usually subsidized publicly to some extent, I'm not quite sure how criticisms of 'trickle-down economics'  are relevant given most advocates of supply-side economics would reject the idea of publicly subsidizing business.

Don't try using logic. Things costing more = evil greedy capitalists. Inflation has nothing to do with anything!

Supply side economics is fine in theory, but it can still make for highway robbery by unscrupulous and unethical people, just like the scourge of corporate welfare that has little redeeming value, if any, in regards to helping America reach its true potential. But, I am going to get off my soapbox, as I just merely wanted to spotlight another instance of the epitome of irony.
