2011 NFL draft revisited, would you take JJ Watt over Cam?

Recommended Posts

Actually, a case can be made that Newton came into a situation that wasn't better than what Jake walked into.

Newton had Smitty, Lafell, Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, and his offensive line included Jordan Gross, Travelle Wharton and Ryan Kalil.

That's a pretty good group.

Delhomme had Smitty (who emerged that year), Moose, Proehl, Mangum, Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster (good, but not Double Trouble in their prime), and an offensive line that included Jordan Gross, Todd Steussie, and Jeff Mitchell.

Remember also that Smith didn't emerge as a receiving threat until later in the season, netting 7 TDs in the regular season, along with Moose's 3 TDs.

I mean you can compare all you want, but the question remains, can Cam win the big one? That's a multi- multi-multi- million dollar question this year.

Can you answer that question without going all man crush on Cam?

lol Dude, just say you're not a fan of Cam...it's ok

Jake's "1st year" = 6th year in the league

2003 Defense = 8th ranked defense based on yardage

2003 Offense = 16th ranked offense based on yardage

Cam's "1st year" = Rookie Year

2011 Defense = 28th ranked defense based on yardage

2011 Offense = 7th ranked offense based on yardage

Jake went to a far better defensive and overall team.  Similar offensive talent between the two teams, but Cam made our offense a top 10 one while our offense was average with Jake.

Anyone saying Watt must have forgot the crap we put at QB the 2 seasons before 2011 or how the fanbase was literally ready to turn on JR after his lockout shenanigans.

Had anyone pointed out the fact that we could have easily had JJ, Luke, and Wilson since he was a third round pick? So use your 2nd rounder on Wilson, meaning we'd no longer have Silatolu. Which I know would break many hearts around here.

the secound rounder we didn't have?

You always choose Franchise QB over Elite DE.

I live in Houston, JJ Watt is as good as advertised, but you can scheme him out of plays or just get your hands on him. Your QB touches the ball every offensive snap.

And forget getting Luck in 2012. The colts didn't start winning until they had pretty much secured getting the top pick (0-13). Though the rams did give them a run for the money by dropping their last 7 to get the 2nd pick in the draft.

Not sure about the Cam/Watt debate, but that's crazy. I understand being loyal to your guys and all, but damn.

No it's not. Cam/Luke is a better duo than Watt/Luck.

You should be able to see it after witnessing the duo of Cam/Luke bitch slap Drew Brees & your Saints the last 2 years.

How many playoffs appearances? What's their projection for the next couple of years?

Aa for us, since Cam we won our division twice and we're 7th among many reputable power rankings. We have an upward trajectory. As for the Texans, well, they could pick top 5 in next year's draft or they they might win 8 games.

The one good year the Texans had was when the Colts was tanking in 2012.

They've been to the playoffs twice, same as the Panthers. Again, they've had 1 below .500 season since Watt joined them. The Panthers have had 1 above .500 season since Cam joined. The "Texans suck with Watt" argument is just flat out wrong, and if you want to argue it, the Panthers suck with Cam.

12 wins to 7 wins isn't an upward trajectory.

Lol @ power rankings. I'm not wasting my time arguing with someone who obviously knows nothing.

Cam isn't a better QB than Luck.

Luke isn't a better defender than Watt.

You offer those two pairings to 32 GMs and 31 of them take Luck/Watt. There's nothing wrong with that. Because Watt is considered the best defender in football and Luck is considered the best young QB in football. Not sure there's another young QB/defender combo someone would take over Cam/Luke. None off the top of my head. But Luck/Watt I would take every time.

I'm fairly certain the series is 2-2 the last two years, but who am I to throw facts around.
