LG G3 or Sony Xperia Z3v (Verizon)?

So I originally posted back in March that my upgrade was coming up soon and now I am only a couple of weeks out.

Currently, I own a Droid RAZR M and it has been good but quickly after upgrading to KitKat it started to have issues with lag and battery life.

That said, I have been researching some of the current phones for Verizon and narrowed it down to two phones: The LG G3 and the Sony Xperia Z3v.

I like the LG G3 due to its size and screen and it sounds like it has a great camera but it seems like a lot of G3 users have been having issues with battery life and WiFi issues after upgrading to lollipop so it is making me question whether to get it or not. Right now, Best Buy has the LG G3 for only $1 on a new 2-year agreement.

On the other hand, there is the Z3v. From all the reviews I have read, this phone is severely underrated and they don't understand how this phone gets so little attention. I think the only issues I read is that there is lack of cases and no simultaneous data/voice (or VOLTE.) Outside of that, the phone could probably compete with the big boys. The Z3v is only 99¢ at Verizon.

I would go for the G4 but don't really want to invest in phone at this time.

So to any LG G3 or Sony Xperia users, what do you think?

From my understanding, phones with native lollipop support (meaning new phones where lollipop is the OEM software) do not really have issues with the system whereas phones that have upgraded to lollipop run into a myriad of issues.

My phone has native lollipop support and I didn't experience any problems. My battery lasted nearly 2 full days. However, once I updated to 5.1, I ran into some battery life and signal quality issues.

If you get an older phone, like the two you mentioned, I suggest holding off on updates for a while until all the lollipop bugs are worked out.

eta: I don't think it is available with Verizon, but be careful you're not buying the LG G3s. The s model is a very cheap version of the real thing.

You should check out the g4 from lg. Looks to improve in a lot of ways from the g3. I still love my g2, but once my upgrade hits, the g4 is in my sights.

The removable batter and SD card are nice features. The camera is really good according to the Internet.

Good luck!

Hey guys! Thanks for the advice.

Chimera- I went to Best Buy's website to see what model it is and sure enough it is VS485 which is the one I assume you are referring to. Also, I googled the vs485 and it one of the first links is Verizon's website so I am not sure if they also carry that model or not.

D-Dave- As I said, I really don't want to invest a great deal in a phone at this time. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get the G4 but unless they have a sell on them or some sort of promotion then I won't do it.

But thanks again guys!

Bah, reading am hard!  Didn't see the price thing.

That being said, the G3 for $1 is pretty dern sweet.  I'm very happy with my G2, and the G3 is a very good phone as well.  LG has been doing a really good job the past few years.  Not perfect for everyone, but a very good phone in it's own right.

Good luck choice making!

No simultaneous voice and data? Personally, if I'm getting a smartphone that's a dealbreaker.

I would say the same thing... Except I hardly use the feature that much. I think the only time I would really need it is if I am traveling and I am using my phone for GPS and I don't really travel that much.

On top of that, the phone does support VOLTE, from what I understand, but for some reason Verizon did not include it when it was release. Supposedly the Z3 and U.S. Z3 models are suppose to get updated with lollipop and that is when the volte update is also suppose to be included.

Also, from what I read, the z3v isn't the only device that can support it but doesn't have it.

We'll see what happens though

I think all z3 models are already on lollipop. z3 compact updated to it in march.

Oh I thought T-Mobile was the only U.S. phone to carry the Z3 while Verizon and ATT&T had variants of the phone.

This article is made me think that not all have it.

From that article:

Sony officially announced the release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Z3 several months ago and followed with a rollout of the update to unlocked versions in the U.S.

I have the z3 compact and it is unlocked.  There is the reason mine is already on lollipop.
