Question for the NASCAR fans (re: Kuechly)

I'm taking the wife and some customers on Sunday.  Tailgating for 4 hours.  Will watch the pre-race hoopla.  Will get fired up for the start of the race.  Then after about 7 laps I will lose interest and will be bored silly for 5 hours because the cars will be spread out all around the track.  Like watching I-485 traffic.

I have been to a few races, and I really prefer the smaller tracks, like you said...at the big tracks, it's like watching traffic.

The one thing I did enjoy a bit was getting the radios and listening to the back and forth from driver to crew chief, some of the guys are kinda fun to listen to.

Dale Jr seems like a really cool dude, but he's a mediocre driver & his personality isn't why he's been voted the most popular driver 13 years running.

Again, I understand this coming from a Gordon fan, but what about five wins in the last year is mediocre? He's like sixth or seventh among active drivers in all-time wins, too. If that's mediocre, I'd hate to see your opinion of Kasey Kahne.

90% of the drivers in the sport today are mediocre at best! Some are just down right awful. The sports past champion has a crew chief that can outdrive the driver any day of the week

I might need to try the scanners. I've never done that.

It's worth it. Rent one, have someone at the trailer program these drivers for you: Dale Jr., Danica, Stewart, Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch. Your scanner will hardly ever be silent.

Also, the bathrooms at CMS are pretty good. At least until you use them.

I'm going off what Dale Earnhardt Senior himself said. I'll take his opinion over you.

Kerry wrecked all the damn time at Hickory. He's a tremendous person but he'll be the first to admit he struggled in late models. Kelley was a tough kid, but top-level talent she was not. Dale put Jr. in the car because he had the most potential, and he proved it.

As far as Jr vs Kelley....

Numerous folks in NASCAR have told stories of how Dale would gush over her and tell them she was the one that had the complete package as a driver and could win championships.

Jr himself has said she was a better driver.

Tony Eury Jr & Sr, Dale Jr's cousin & uncle, have said Kelley was the best driver of Dale's kids & back then they all thought she was the one that would go the farthest.

They all said she was the one that drive just like her dad. Stubborn, aggressive, & all out.

Eury Jr said in the '90s he, Jr, & Kelley would all race against each other at Tri-County, Hickory, & Myrtle. And that most of the time Kelley beat them all. And anytime that Dale Sr & Eury Sr were there watching Dale would have a huge smile on his face & yell "that's my girl!!" Then proceed to mock Dale Jr, Eury Jr, & pretty much every other male driver for getting whipped by his little girl.

In the mid '90s Kelley was the only one Dale was helping race full time. Kerry only raced occasionally. Jr even went to his dad asking for a job & Dale hired Jr as a mechanic to work on Kelley's car.

Dale Sr didn't stick Jr in a car until Kelley quit racing in '96 to pursue a different career.

Kelley was the one Dale saw potential in. She drove just like him. He didn't give Jr a ride until she decided she didn't want to race.

She didn't want to race because she wasn't getting enough sponsorship to keep racing, among other reasosn.

As incredible as she was at Tri-County, as amazingly talented as she was, as many times as she "beat" Jr. and Kerry, I don't think she ever won a feature despite having more help than Dale Jr. She wasn't usually at the very front in races that had smaller fields than what Dale Jr. faced at Myrtle. She ran well, though.

Dale Jr. pretty much had himself and Gary Hargett. The family quotes about Kelley are great and I thought she was good too, but at the time, the numbers spoke a bit of a different story than what you're telling. I'm sure that behind his back, some of Tony's crewmen joke about Danica beating Tony now, but that doesn't mean Danica is a better driver than Tony.

But yes, Karsyn has a hell of a lot of potential. It's only a matter of time before she's driving the No. 3 in the Truck Series. Give it 3 or 4 years.

My point still stands though about the utterly ridiculous point that Kerry was better at any level than Jr. Completely wrong in every sense of the word. If you saw those races back then, you'd agree. The only way you could disagree was if you didn't see them.
