Question for the NASCAR fans (re: Kuechly)

Wouldn't experience at some point at least give you some ability to "feel" the speed?

Ever ran 80 on an interstate, got off an exit and caught yourself running 55 in a 35? Swearing the whole time you were doing 35/40ish?

Same thing happens to racers! The tachometer and gear you are in is 100% relied upon

NASCAR drivers bitch about everything these days.

Kyle Busch and Joey Lagano are by far the most hated amongst drivers. Mostly because they are overly aggressive compared to everyone else. It's a giant bitchfest anytime one of them bumps somebody.

I bet current drivers would've just loved driving against Dale Sr. That man would've spun out his own mama to win a race.

NASCAR drivers usually argue face to face and let someone know when they aren't happy, not by crying to race officials or the media.

Why didn't Carl Edwards sack up and tell Luke to his face?

Lol

Carl would be one that actually would....lol.

But here is the thing, 99% sure he wasn't mad. Most of the NASCRAP family are Panther Fans being they live in or around Mooresville.

Pace laps are generally used for building heat in the 4 rubber corners, hence the accelerating and braking along with the side to side swerving to generate hysteresis in the sidewalls to enhance pliability that comes with higher temps.

Pace cars keep a steady high speed so the drivers can allow gaps to build in which they can accelerate and close the gap. Similar to a burnout effect for drag racers, builds heat in the rear tires so they don't spin on the starts. The acceleration also allows them to clean out their intakes for an abundance of fuel will build up in low idle situations

He just scienced the poo out of this lol

It's a different day now! I used to be a huge cup fan! Worked in the business asphalt circle track racing.

Went from being about the driver putting on a good show to putting on a clean and corporate friendly show

Pace laps that are before the first green flag are actually so that the drivers can calibrate their tachometer (stock cars don't have speedometers) to the pit road speed. At Charlotte, the pit road speed is 45mph. Therefore the pace lap speed is 45mph. Honorary pace car drivers only drive those first 4-6 pace laps.

This is not untrue. Money is king and if you have money, you have speed.

It'd be real hard to be a Senna or an Earnhardt in today's time without the entire world convincing you to castrate yourself via racing ethics.

If you take prisoners on the track and fans out of your corner, your sponsor shits a chicken because that takes customers away from them.

tl;dr - it is what it is..

Not entirely true but I see what you're saying.

But you have guys like Paul Menard, Jon Wes Townley, Steven Wallace who are loaded but cant drive for poo.

Money might get you to go fast but without skill you really can't do anything with that speed.

Btw Edwards is bitching because Edwards is a bitch. Him, Ryan Newman and Kyle bush are the biggest bitches in Nascar.

NASCAR seems to be a big punching bag everyone likes to laugh at. While I think it does suck today, it's not always been that way.

From the late '70s to mid '90s NASCAR was great. There were a lot of great drivers and the racing was awesome. It was a completely different sport. Just watch videos of Earnhardt & Waltrip racing. They'd slam into each other & push each other out of the way lap after lap. Nowadays they play follow the leader.

Folks say money ruined NASCAR but that's not true. Safety ruined NASCAR. The tipping point was the death of the sports biggest legend in 2001. And it's so shameful that it took the death of Dale before NASCAR got serious about safety. If they had acted sooner when ask those other guys were killed Dale would probably still be alive.

But I guess NASCAR didn't care until they lost one of their prized drivers & said hey now we can't have our most valuable assets dying.

14 drivers died in the 80s, another 11 died in the 90s, & 3 died in '00 alone. Then Earnhardt was killed in '01 & they finally made changes. Only 5 drivers have been killed since Dale, & only 2 since '05.

All of the safety rules implemented & car changes have completely changed NASCAR, & honestly ruined what the sport was. But that's the way it is & human life us more important.

The death of Earnhardt alone was a massive hit to NASCAR that they probably weren't gonna survive regardless of what they did. I don't think folks realize how popular & beloved he was. Next to Michael Jordan he was probably the single most popular sports figure in the US. Dale Jr seems like a really cool dude, but he's a mediocre driver & his personality isn't why he's been voted the most popular driver 13 years running. Earnhardt had a cult following.

The money comes into play because NASCAR realized after Dale died & they made all these safety changes that it was just a matter of time before the sport dissolved. They went big & are cashing in while they can. They're gonna squeeze every penny they can out of NASCAR while they can.

And NFL fans should be careful about poking fun at NASCAR. The same downfall of NASCAR could be what kills the NFL (safety & money). It's already happening now. The NFL is all about making money. And head trauma has vastly impacted rules & how the sport is played, as well as hurt youth participation.

What do folks think will happen when/if an elite, popular player is paralyzed on the field.

I love the NFL but to be honest I think it has an expiration date just like NASCAR.

I'm not sure where you live, and I don't mean this to be snarky, but I don't think that is true. I could easily be wrong but I would think Tiger Woods, Mike Tyson, Dan Marino and maybe even some others would rank higher. With the exception of the south in the 90s, I don't think NASCAR was all that popular. Sure races would draw huge crowds. No doubt there. But so does College football. While the big races were certainly on tv, I'm not sure the big deals with Fox putting NASCAR on tv every week had been done yet.

I don't know. I could be wrong. But I can tell you, growing up in NY, I knew who Dale Earnhardt was but I certainly wouldn't have said he was near the top of the list of most popular sports figures in the US in the 90s. I would think Bird and Magic were higher so that's 3 in the NBA alone. Minus all the NFL stars and Tyson and Tiger (granted Tiger didn't win his 1st major until 97 so maybe an argument could be made against him - but by 2001 Tiger certainly surpassed Dale Sr).

* have always

ps: my grammatical correction of yours had about as much validity to this conversation as your input. but hey, it's the internet and stuff.

Hey, man. I think the subject is age, which is singular, so "has" would be the right conjugation for the verb "have". But I guess you go on to say that your "correction" is as valid as the dude's input, by which I think you meant not valid, so I guess the "incorrection" must have been on purpose. I just had to double check to make sure we get it right.

Aside from being a pedantic prick, what examples of NASCAR regulation put corporatism over the driver? I'm just wondering why fans are still fans, or why they aren't anymore, after significant changes in the sport. What would an everyday fan want from the sport?
