I think this contract just defined the absolute floor of Cam's deal. Nothing more.

That averages to around 16 million a year which is not that high given the franchise tag for a QB is 18.5 million for 2015 and will only go up from there.

 

Sound way of looking at it. 

 

He's at a yearly price $2.5 million under the current tag.  I'd love to see what he could do with a competent coaching staff though.  Bill Lazor could have a good season there.  He has good talent in place:

Also, Tannehill's wife, from the moment he was drafted, has been the most overrated WAG in the history of sports. Good looking? Yes. Out of my (or most of our) league? Most likely. Worth the hype she gets? Not even close.

I disagree that's the way it is. You hear about Shula, Lombardi and Schottenheimer, etc as winningest coaches and whathaveyou, you don't hear about QBs as much. I think it's one of the biggest myths ever, how people like to judge QBs based on team wins. Only ONE person on the sideline is responsible to and for every part of the team. That's the HC. QB only controls a part of a part of the game.

And for the record I think Tannehill is a solid young QB and the contract isn't THAT out of line with reasonable expectations for him, considering the QB extension market these days.
