There are exactly two "safe" Panthers receivers. And by safe, I am saying their roster spot is 100% certain.

Everyone else, and I do mean everyone, is trying out this year to make the team. Veterans, rookies, and everyone in between. 

 

That means 10 players will be trying to grab one of likely four roster spots. ( I see them keeping 6, not 7 considering special teams help was brought in at other positions)

Byrd

Cotchery 

Ginn

Hill 

Lucas

Presley

 

All of these guys have a fair shake at making the final cut, which will make for probably the best training camp competition out there this Summer. 

 

What more can you ask for?

I would say Ginn is almost assured a place on the 53 because of his ability as a returner, so it's really down to 3 open slots.

He didn't have a single career return in college, what makes you think he'll all of a sudden be able to consistently field punts and have the field vision to return them. Ginn is proven.

Ginn is the only guy that I can remember fielding a kick for the past five years on this team that I don't hold my breath every time he touches the ball.

Byrd is a tiny rookie. I would not take him over Ginn for anything less than Ginn's hands falling off. I would take him in addition to Ginn.

I would think Ginn makes it. Corey Brown and Cotchery probably make it. Bersin definitely does not make it. Hill probably does't make it. Don't know much about the rest. If we keep Boykin, he could very well be our worst receiver this year.
