Putting my dog to sleep today

Well, she's in a better place now. She was a lab mix and 17 years old, which is ridiculously old for a lab. Her first appointment at the vet was in '99 and they estimated that she was one to two at the time. We adopted her from an abusive family (she had shotgun pellets in her stomach lining when we first took her to the vet). So, she lived a much better life then what she would have. She was diagnosed with cancer in January and over the last two days she stopped eating and was unable to stand on her own. It was time, but damn that sucked. It was probably the first time I've ever seen my dad cry.

She was co-captain of our lake boat, so we're going to place a picture of her behind the captain's seat.

Thanks for everyone's kind words.

Sounds like you gave her an awesome life.  17 yrs for  dog that size is an exception.  Props to you for rescuing her.  Cool she got to be a lake/boat dog.

All that being said, I also want to tell you I am so sorry for you and your family for your loss.  I hope you can take some comfort in the wonderful life you gave her.  I do understand how much it hurts to lose her.  Having to make that decision is a tremendously hard one.  I hope it helps to know that others understand and care.
