In twenty years whats the worst loss to date?

the most recent playoff win did a lot to flush the memory of that game away.  people can talk it down all they want but i think it was important for the franchise and fans.

I agree, the win definitely did something for the team and fan base, and now it's time to build on that and continue.  That loss though was numbing....for a few years.....

Dude how do you mix up Quincy Carter and Tony Romo?

Then it wasn't 2001, sorry. Try 2006. October 29, 2006 to be exact. Romo's first start. We lost 35-14. At home.

It sucks to get old.

btw the Cowboys suck as a team & organization but their website is awesome. Their "History By Season" lists each year's highlights, games, starters, & stats. Wish the Panthers' website had detailed history like that.

Ok.

I thought you were talking about the game we were up 14-0 with about 90 seconds left, then lost. That game was in Dallas, so it can't be that one.

I saw a topic similar to this discussing the best win to date. Figured why not ask what was your worst loss as a Panthers fan (excluding the Super Bowl loss)?

Mine hands down was during the 2004 season when we started 1-7, and we put together a fantastic run only to be deflated in week 15 by Vicks hydroplane dive into the end-zone...

thats the same one that came to mind for me, that and cardinals 08

The SB game was an amazing joy ride with a bad ending and hope for the future. The AZ game was total nightmare and marked the end of the Jake era. Not only was it gut wrenching to watch, but at that point I knew the following season would be a disaster as well. There was nothing to look forward for the following season. Then Jake came out the following season opener against the Eagles and played almost as poorly as he did against AZ. The AZ game is as bad as it gets for me.

I'm going back a little further. The playoff loss to the Packers in 96. That team, more specifically that defense, was so good. And it was only our 2nd season. But why it's the worse for me is what came after. 97-2002 was just horrible. To be that good so early and then that bad for 6 years was hard to handle.

The problem was instead of building a young core, the Jaguars and Panthers just picked up a bunch of veteran free agents close to or at the end of their primes or careers, and once they all departed, both teams had to actually go through the expansion team growing pains.

I'll give you one.

It is 1999. After a 2-5 start and a seemingly doomed season, we then went 5-2 as one of the most dangerous teams in football. Our offense was on fire. Beuerlein was torching defenses with Muhammad, Jeffers, and Walls and we were the team that no one wanted to face in the postseason.

I'll never forget week 16. Our boys flew to Pittsburgh to play Bettis and the Steelers in the snow. Our weakness; you guessed it: our defense was "bend but don't break" and were far from a physical presence. A smash mouth team like the Steelers in the snow, which also made it harder on our high flying offense, was the worst thing that could have happened to us.

I remember watching our defense bend and hold them, only for Bettis or Richard Huntley to break tackles on key downs keep drives going, keeping our prolific offense off the field and wearing our defense down.

The worst part was how close the game was. We were down 20-23 at half. Beuerlein connected with Patrick Jeffers for two scores of 88 and 43 yards. Then in the second half neither team could get anything done, until, after wearing our defense out, Bettis punched in a clinching touchdown late in the 4th.

With that loss, our season was over. We ended the season 8-8, going 6-3 in the last 9 games, but if we had not run into such a crappy matchup in the snow of Pittsburgh, the history books might have been written differently.

That 1999 season was one of the most exciting of our history, and that was without making the postseason, but the way that team responded after that 2-5 start is something I will always remember, and that loss to the Steelers is where my hate for them took off.

Another sad note was this game was one of the last meaningful games that Patrick Jeffers would ever play, with injuries destroying a brief career, but in 1999 the dude balled out. He started 10 games with 12 TD's and 1,000 yards. Sad that he could not build on that.

I understand everyone saying the Super Bowl, but for me:

  1. That is an answer that takes no thought; the easy answer.
  2. We lost a Super Bowl that we overachieved to get to, to a dynasty. We took the best team in football and put them on the ropes, and one of the greatest QB's ever won the game for them (with the help of an unlucky kick).

So judging on the amount of pain felt...I give you 1999.

Cheers.

i don't know if it's the worst loss, but the 2012 @falcons with nakamura was the sickest i've ever felt after i game. i was residually angry for a day.

Dunno what it is with my birthday and heartbreaking losses, but Jesus.  that one, the one where we lost to Dallas 21-7 a couple years before...ugh.  This last year the Ravens game...
