I just think it's fuged up because in 2010, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was accused of raping a girl in a nightclub bathroom.  Although it settled out of court (he paid her off), Roethlisberger was suspended for 4 games by the NFL.  The team was not docked any draft picks.  

 

The Patriots were docked a 1st round draft pick and Tom Brady was suspended for 4 games for deflating some footballs.

To be fair, the actual deflaters were indeed employees of the Patriots organization. That's why the team got penalized.

It'd be pretty difficult to hold the Steelers responsible in any way for Rothlisberger's actions.

The only way football will start losing audience is when the 'face' of the QB position start changing. Once the 'face' of the QB position is more like that of the running back position, per se, then a lot of people will lose interest. The NBA lost a lot of its popularity after Larry Bird was done. He was considered as the last. Yep, 'face' of the franchise literally means 'face' of the franchise.

For football to be knocked out of the #1 spot, there has to be something else to fill its place. Baseball is dead. Basketball is dead. Unless you're proposing that MMA is gonna become #1, which it is not, then even if NFL loses popularity it'll stay #1 for a long time.
