Oline rankings 2014 PFF

I was browsing Reddit, and found this post. I thought it was solid.

http://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/35iyq0/i_used_pff_grades_to_grade_every_ol_in_every/

Our line was graded pretty solid. Bell and Chandler really killed our overall grade. Norwell, Kalil, and Turner all did well. Bell was one of the worst LT grades in the entire league.

Bell -33 (negative)

Oher -20 (negative)

For some comparison:
J. Matthews- LT Atlanta= -36
Nate Solder- LT Patriots= -4.9
E. Monroe- LT Ravens= -12.9
D. Ferguson- LT Jets= 0
T. Smith- LT Cowboys= 21.6
J. Peters- LT Eagles= 38.2 (da fug)

I don't know what each number means, but based on that, they both had pretty poo seasons. You can compare their numbers with other O-line to get a better understanding of just how far they are, in terms of deviation.

It also is overall blocking, and its a blanket statistic. So, of course, take these numbers with a grain of salt. Oher was at RT, Bell was at LT.

Oher needs to step up his game, -20 on the right side... Pretty poo. Hopefully it really was due to his injury and organizational problems, as he has hinted at. Time will tell. I hope we can sign another veteran for some competition.

What happened to Anthony Collins? I remember we were interested a year ago...could be a cheap signing to add competition...

Maybe he got complacent with his new contract, maybe the previous coaches made the player, maybe an injury.

He hasn't been signed yet which is making me think the latter, I mean he probably wasn't worth the 30 million dollar contract he got but he was a starting caliber tackle when he left Cincinnati in their system.

Oher also admitted he was playing injured. Add the fact that he is healthy and back with his old O-line coach, there's no reason not be excited.

Optimistic*..... Excited? Not sure. It's not like it has been only one down season. He has been a disappointment thus far... But he has the intangibles to be good, and an Oline coach that has helped him produce the best in his career. I really hope this guy can be something special for us, because he has the talent to be first round... He also seems to be willing to put in the work.... But, if he doesn't work out, where are we left?

Checked a Bengals forum article on AC and the consensus seems to be the Bengals & being paired with Whitworth made him

Oher has shown he can do a good job. Unless you have injuries it is unlikely that you would decline during your twenties. It would seem that increased technique knowledge and practice would improve your overall performance. Unless there were other factors as well as injury then you can't be effective no matter what you do. Like effort and conditioning and proper technique. Look how our line has usually improved over the course of the year as guys play together and develop chemistry. That is due to the coaches, Matsko and Brown. Matsko was the O line coach for the greatest show on turf years, and mentored Oher with Baltimore. His influence will be huge in helping Oher regain his confidence. It won't be just Oher as an individual but how he fits in with everyone else and how well they work as a unit. That is what Matsko excels at doing. Building chemistry, communication, and cooperation. The 3 Cs.

If Michael can rediscover the fire to excel and by all reports he is putting in good effort, he can regain the form he showed when he came into the league. I am optimistic that given how well Matsko did with a UDFA and converted defensive tackle last year, he can take a veteran like Oher and improve him. After all I bet he had a lot to do with us picking Oher up. Plus MIchael jumped at the chance to play for Matsko I suspect. If Oher works out he will be a fantastic bargain for us. And Cam can make him look good with his elusiveness . I remember Gross saying Cam helps reduce your numbered sacks particularly when he has guys to throw to and someone to hand off the ball.

the guy has sucked his entire career. is that not reason enough?

He hasn't sucked so much as he has gotten moved around a lot from left to right side and back. Add injuries, coaching changes and perhaps inconsistent effort and it is easy to see how he also was inconsistent. Sure he had something to do with it as well but I am sure it is fair to say he has always sucked and will suck here as well.  TIme will tell though.
