Funchess the next Moose?

Gallon was drafted in the seventh round, and is currently unemployed. Why? Because Gallon was a shifty slot guy who could take a five yard completion and turn it into a 50 yard gain.

No physicality, weak route running, a limited route tree and low football IQ contributed to the rest.

Poor example.

He was also a better college receiver, that's he was able to produce more with the same QB.

Funchess obviously is a better prospect, but your not going to sit here come out with every excuse in the book for him not producing.

So those WR who have in fact produced with bad QBs, and didn't produce with other bad QBs gives Fri I unchess the excuse for NEVER producing. LMAO

Cam actually had surgery and FYI, Cam was injured since December of 2013 that didn't stop him. Julio Jones whose always injured still produces

FSU fans raved about Kelvin, how did that work out? See what I did there

So again great Wr don't always produce with bad QBs..

Show me Funchess targets compare to rec. In college.. And let's be honest our OC at Michigan sucked and is jobless now.. Who puts a Wr at TE for 2years but then realizes he's a Wr?? Answer Dumb coaches..

FSU fans also raved about Everett Brown.. How that workout??

See what I did there.. Made another point.. Stop listening to other fans and make your own opinion..

They don't always but at least they have, why hasn't Funchess?

Maybe because he played like a TE? His best seasons were as a TE, he was the one who decided to lose weight to become WR, stop putting the blame on other people.

My eyes tell me he under produced at Michigan, hopefully that changes in Carolina.

Again, poor example. Two different receivers with two different roles. In addition, Gallon had majority of his receptions within 10 yards.

Funchess was utilized as a WR/TE. Obviously, not the same.

Gardener regressed to the point where he was converted back to a WR last season. That's the equivalent of having Joe Webb as our starting QB.

What does having reception under 10 yards have to do with anything? Is it a bad thing he's better at YAC

I know Gardener is trash, I know he regressed, but keep in mind Funchess was the one who wanted to play WR and they expected him to replace Gallon. Something he couldn't do which was one of the reasons Gardner regressed.

Sounds to me like Funchess not being a YAC guy, which in no way inherently diminishes Funchess' ability, made the offense become more traditional in the sense that the QB was expected to push the ball down the field with longer throws... sort of like Jimmy Clausen stepping into the Panthers offense from ND.  When the QB couldn't do it, the offense faltered.  I'd call that more a QB being exposed than regressing.

It means that Gallon was the type to take a screen to the house for 6.

Funchess doesn't possess that level of elusiveness. He's 6'5, 235 lbs.

Yeah, ummm, Devin not having the freakiest athleticism in college football history is exactly the reason why Gardener regressed. Yep, that's on Funchess alright. It's also Funchess' fault that The Big Ten got tape on Gardener.

It's both of thier faults, Funchess while at Michigan had 3 main things brought against him, he was slow, he dropped a ton and he was soft.

You should read sbnation scouting report on him, its one of the most positive ones

Like I keep saying I hope he improves with us, cause the Funchess I and most people saw in college under achieved

Two of those cons were already debunked.

- Funchess ran a 4.4 at his Pro Day.

- There was a clip of Funchess on here getting laid out down the middle, and got up quickly while the defender took his sweet time. There was also a clip of Devin slamming an Ohio State DB.

Drops are an issue but he likely suffers from lack of concentration/focus. And yes, he did underachieve at Michigan but his measurables, work ethic and football IQ make him an exciting prospect.

Take that pro day 40 with a grain of salt. Very unreliable.

I neither agree nor disagree though.

Might as well take all 40 times with a grain of salt.  Most team scouts/front offices use the film to judge for the most part.  Besides, if pro day times were really so much different, every one of those kids would want to be running them to show a better time than the combine.
