David Newton ranks our receivers (which is very close to my own).

I hope Stephen Hill can pan out. His size and speed are rare.

I am a big fan of Philly Brown, I think he is higher up that list than Newton has him.

I still think Cotchery may get cut after TC. We have been moving toward youth and/or speed and unfortunately he has neither. Then again he is a great locker room guy so maybe not.

There's two reasons I think we keep Cotchery, the main one being Gettleman has a vet presence in every position group in the squad. You could argue that Ginn could be that guy but I get the feeling Cotchery was chosen specifically for that role and Ginn will have more vet emphasis on the ST group.

Secondly, there's no real financial benefit of cutting Cotchery this year, and he's still only one season removed from a 10 TD season. Hopefully we can get one last productive season from him before he hangs his gloves up.

Cotch only makes team if he is slated to be a top 3 receiver, ie the 3rd. That is very possible. But if not, they already said back ups need have either 1) position versatility, or 2) special teams ability. Old man Cotch has neither of those things.

cotchery is the only vet receiver.

He'll be on the team, and be h8gher than you think he should.

Prepare yourself.

As of right now, KB, Corey Brown, and Ginn all have the same amount experience in our system as Cotchery.  A vet presence was much more important last season with NO ONE with a working knowledge of our system, but a year removed from this situation, I'm not sure what he brings to the team is needed or necessary anymore.  The thing working against him is having so much youth on the team, that's what I think will hurt him because will Rivera be willing to cut Brown to keep a guy who legitimately only may have 1 year left in the tank, and at that, only productive enough to be a 3/4 reciever.  I don't hate Cotch, and if he made the team, I'd be completely ok with it (unlike some others who really don't like that possibility), but I think his age really hurts him in this case.

The fact that Bersin is the #8 on this list shows how much our WR corps has improved over the last year.  He was the #2 option in some games.  Props to Gettleman for improving our team and not breaking the bank.

Stephen Hill is the dark horse of the group, no doubt.  Man I hope he pans out.

I do too.  He has to know we've given him the best possible chance to make the team by giving him a full year to learn the playbook and work on his flaws without gameday pressure.  Preseason will be his domain, if he performs, he could actually make the team in a #3 "speedster" role, if he flops, he may be on his way out of the NFL so I'm guessing we get the best shot this kid physically has.

I only have a Question...

What is the Need for 12 WR?

We only use 3 Per down Correct?

Are the other 9 for ST? or Camp bodies

Seems like to me they will have 3 teams of WR, and they switch out on differnt plays.

I don't see how Brown is rated below Boykin and Hill.

Benjamin

Cotchery

Philly

Ginn

Funchess (Until he plays)

Bersin

Boykin

Presley

Hill

Lucas

M. Brown

Byrd

Those bottom 7 will likely battle out for the last spot, and will probably go to a speedier guy.

There are 90 roster spots right now, this number will be cut to 5 or 6.

Newton had Mike McNeil making the final roster last year,

To be fair, he had a shot until he got hurt, right?  Or was his value as an in-line blocker diminished when Dickson and Swole became more capable.

lol Boykin and Hill are not better than Corey Brown. Maybe not even better than Bersin.

Also Cotchery is crap. I'll be immensely disappointed if we stick him as anything more than a #4 receiver.

I'd say our depth chart is more like:
1. Kelvin Benjamin

2. Devin Funchess

3. Ted Ginn

4. Corey Brown

5. Jericho Cotchery

Those are the players with pretty much assured spots on the roster. With the seven left I think Bersin, Brown, and Boykin would be the only ones that could be kept as pure receivers; Presley is more of a special teamer IMO (I like the guy, hope he can get a spot on the roster), and Lucas and Byrd are the practice squad guys.
