NFL Free Agent Collins Cleared as Suspect

Dont want to search theough all the posts, but is he considered as a FA and can work out any contract free of the CbA rookie scale pay grade?

If so...he could get some seeious surprise contract cash?

He is an UnDrafted Free Agent with zero years of NFL playing time. He can't make in base salary more than the very last (#256)guy drafted. Those are minimum contracts, so La'el will not get more than a minimum base salary.

The wiggle room is that the signing bonuses for UDFAs isn't set in stone. Teams have $86k to divide up between all of their UDFAs they sign after the draft. Since every team has signed UDFAs, nobody will be able to offer him the whole $86k.

Teams could offer to guarantee the minimum salaries he can get, but since every team will do it, no one will really stick out as a bigger $$$ deal.

Best La'el can hope for is to get a starting LT spot and get playing time for when he's an Unrestricted Free Agent. LT gets bigger contracts than RT, Guards or Centers

I'm pretty sure we can contact him and he can sign whenever he wants. He just can't hold a visit/meeting with any teams.

General talk maybe, but not contract or football-specific talk.

The NFL does not like loopholes.

His name being mentioned within 20 sentences of a murder, probably means he isn't even on our radar now.

This is just being fracking dumb. I'm serious. Shut the hell up. Just because we got rid of Hardy for multiple instances of domestic abuse, does not mean we penalize victims of circumstance on our scouting radar. Jesus Christ.

What you're talking about happens with existing teammates, and relatively minor amounts.

If it were done with big money and used as an enticement to bring him aboard, the league would go ape s--t.

The same league that ruined this guys dream? If there's no league rule governing gifts or loans to UDFA's, you think it won't happen?

I think we'd be idiots if we tried to pull a stunt like that.

Very few "proven" players would be worth that kind of risk, and no unproven player is or ever will be.

Also, the league didn't "ruin his dream". An unfortunate set of circumstances may have delayed it, but there's still plenty of room for a happy ending.
