What would be wrong with a team signing him for rookie max and work out some sort of endorsement deal under the table with a sponsor.

The amounts are set, save for signing bonuses. However, teams only have about $86,000 they can spend on their ENTIRE UDFA class.

They can also guarantee portions or all of the salary.

What you're talking about happens with existing teammates, and relatively minor amounts.

If it were done with big money and used as an enticement to bring him aboard, the league would go ape s--t.
