Game Changers - Wide Receivers ( Devin Funchess )

Recommended Posts

BTW: Funchess, clobbered that device in the drill with a quick swipe! :thumbsu:

That thing went to ground every time he hit it.. Than how he caught the ball and quickly turned up field..

I think we have a 1a and 1b wr combination now...

I've been saying it in other threads he is very quick. Look how quickly he moves up the field as soon as he catches the ball. That will translate to YAC ability in the pros

We pick the guy and a lot of people hated it.

They go and watch some film and interviews on the guy and suddenly they see the potential.  It's crazy what basing your decision on research on a guy will do to your opinion of him.

The players were fighting so hard to not laugh.

Interesting Mayock called Funchess a late round 1 to mid 2 propspect.

And that was based off a mostly likely erroneous 4.7 40 ydt  (if we even care or think what Mayock says,  is  remotely relevant to NFL Brass).

You weren't the only one.  People were very against him in my Funchess thread but there also those pretty excited about the possibility.  You have to think when DG first met him he was just like...I gotta do something to get this kid in the draft.

After studying Gettleman's choices the past 2 years and his conversations about players he liked you start to see patterns.  He appears to favor the nasty smart dudes who are large, physical and athletic.  He wants mismatches across the board and doesnt mind taking a guy who needs work and seasoning to be ready to play.  He looks at physical attributes over skill level and athleticism and football speed over being ready to plug and play in the NFL.  He likes guys who fit our system regardless of how they are viewed overall.   He seems to have a lot of faith in our coaches to develop guys to be ready to play eventually.  That is one of the reasons we seem to get off to slow starts.  Raw guys take time to develop.

Perfectly stated, DG trust the coaches which speaks volumes.

We are heading the right direction after years wondering in the desert of mediocrity and mirages of greener pastures.
