Lesean McCoy on Chip Kelly: "There's a reason Chip got rid of all the good black players."

Recommended Posts

I'm going to say this and leave it alone. As a black young man in America i can never make a white man understand how it feels to be black. You'll never understand and thats completely understandable. Do I think Chip is a racist? No. Do i think the moves he's made is a race driven thing? No. I do believe it's a culture thing, it's his team and he's free to shape it as he see fits. Maybe this should go to the tinkerbox, but one thing I'm sick of seeing is white men judging black men on how they feel when they aren't qualified to do so. So while I understand where Shady is coming from, he's wrong, but he's justified in his beliefs.

You can feel however you want. But accusing a man of racism shouldn't come so easily to anyone. He was sent to Buffalo and signed a 40 million dollar contract. Calling that racism is demeaning to people that deal with real racism.

Dude, there is definitely something going on in your life that has you pissed off and a chip on your shoulder. Your posting has gotten dark, negative, and pissy. Everything negative in your life is not because of the color of your skin and whitey is not out to get you. Get over it.

As for McCoy, he is pissed that Kelly kicked him to the curb. Much easier for him to blame racism than to look inward and see that it just may be his own shitty attitude and actions that caused the situation.

I'm fine, we'll be having a beer together in September. I view this forum as a place to not just come together and hold hands and agree. We are all Panther fans, but we're capable of having discussions. Race is always a touchy issue, but I feel like we should be able to discuss it in a respectful way. I've been racially victimized before in my like just like I'm sure many other blacks have, I don't go around attributing every misfortune in my life to racism. I'm just saying I can see how Shady would draw that conclusion. He fails to realize it's a black league and there's no way chip could get rid of all the black players and be successful. So on the surface his argument sounds ridiculous, but it comes from a very real place that those who haven't experienced it can't comprehend.

I don't think he flat out called him a racist did he? What McCoy doesn't realize is that it's certain type of players Chip has gotten rid of. I fully believe that if it not for Riley Cooper we wouldn't be having this discussion. Has to be hard to stomach they kept a guy who made a racial slur against your race, but they get rid of you.

Good to hear you are OK.

We had some good times and convo (and a lot of beers) at the tailgates over the past couple of seasons.  Lately you just have not sounded like yourself.  Just wanted to make sure nothing was going on that you needed to reach out and talk to someone about.....don't want to read about you going postal on the news one morning.

I don't think Chip is remotely racist.  I agree with Mr Scott.....I think he is an egotistical asshole that does not like anyone who remotely questions his control and authority.  This is also why I think he flames out and goes back to the college ranks.....that crap does not fly with grown men making millions of dollars (and not to mention that most of them are also egotistical maniacs as well).

Look forward to hanging with you at the TG's this season....will have a cold one waiting on your opening day.

This small time thinking insecure mind is tiresome. Youre an athlete in the Machine called the NFL - youre very expandable.

And I agree, I don't think he's racist either. Just trying to provide where that way of thinking comes from. I think it's become a bit outdated and unwarranted in most cases like this one. Even if he was a racist you're still getting paid millions to play a game, who cares. It's not like he got cut.

Yet no white people ever have?

Not to the same extent. And not as long. I do believe that it is becoming a issue in America tho. For example, I hate seeing a white person getting overlooked for a job for a minority hire. On the other hand being black you always question if you're that minority hire. fuged up world all around.

I agree with most of what you say. Absolutely I can't understand what its like in your skin.

But, I'm sorry, calling someone a racist who ISN'T racist can in no way EVER be "understandable".

Its not.

Its DESPICABLE.

As a white guy, let me go on record as saying that I too have been victimized by white people.

Unless you know for sure--unless the evidence is overwhelming, the racist is usually the one who plays the card.

I really am proud of the progress that has been made during my lifetime, and I am certain that the remaining racists are part of a dwindling group.

lol this may be the only thing we ever agree on.

i think people fail to contextualize statements like this in the black male experience, which is provably fraught with institutionalized bias. if there were no structurally-produced, systematic marginalizations of black males in society then shady would never think to question why chip kelly shipped him out; but systematic racism is a thing in our society and it's in that social context that we need to understand his statement.

i think mccoy is wrong. i don't think chip kelly shipped him out because he's a racist, for the reasons others have mentioned in this thread. but i can see why the possibility would cross the mind of a black male; he's undoubtedly experienced it in the past in some form or another. society is unequal and these kinds of misunderstandings are an unfortunate product of it.
