Anyone know why strong dropped so far?

Recommended Posts

Incredibly stiff hips lead to inability to generate separation. Did not play to timed speed on film. Wrist injury that he would not let teams reexamine.

He sounds to me like a prospect who's arrow is pointing sideways in Gettleman terms. Limited athleticism means he's never going to be more than a possession WR2. He's great on the jump ball and back shoulder throws and he has a spot in the league but he wasn't a first round talent once you looked past the height/weight/speed.

Heard 3 things

1.  Wrist injury

2.  His game tape speed did not match his timed speed

3.  He blew off the medical recheck in Indy which happened about a week and a half before the draft and GM's did not like that

A few guys drop every year and its usually bad Media hype that created the "drop". Tj Clemmings, Jay Ajayi, and Morgan Moses fall into this category recently.

Morgan Moses is not exactly a good example for bad media hype dropping him.....his rise was media hype.  He was NOT that good...and proved it his rookie year.

Posted this yesterday in the Gettlemagic thread: When I was searching for Funchess info, found some guys discussing that Strong has very stiff hips. (the actual discussion thread was about Perriman, but this guy did a Funchess vs Strong comparison)

-----------------------

Just a random draft-nik opinion on the interwebs, but could easily be the reason the Panthers feel Funchess >> Strong.

The drill was blatantly set up for one person to fail. Tell me why the full motion is important? It's just a cop out because you don't know what you're looking at. The most important part of this route is shown. One guy does it very well and smoothly, while the other one is stiff as heck because he doesn't know how to properly run this route.

You can change the speed and watch in in slow motion or frame by frame here: http://gfycat.com/IdolizedQuaintEyas

The game tape of each already paints a clear picture. Funchess' very good hips show up on tape. Strong's stiffness shows up on tape.

I set out to sync the two routes by their step at the 30-yard mark. It's coincidental that the start off the LOS happened to match as well.

The full route only makes Strong look worse. You can see he "cheats" by turning slightly to his right while breaking down.

Funchess is smoother because he "bounces" his feet and gets his head down while sinking his hips. Strong just keeps his upper body in the same position/posture.

Funchess's head turn is also smoother. It means he's more relaxed. Strong's head turns with his body, while Funchess' body turns with his head.

Strong, Clemmings, Ajayi all fell significantly because of injuries.
