Love Shaq but I would be lying if I said him missing OTAs doesnt concern me..

I will keep this pretty short for a change. Love the Shaq pick, I think he will beast. I will admit though that im not a fan of him missing OTAs. When you decide to join the NFL, that is very very serious business, that is now your full time profession and career choice. I know I am in the minority but im not a fan of players putting education an school ahead of the NFL. You are a 1st round pick and expected to contribute immediatley, OTAs are HUGE for a rookie learning a new system and im very concerned when a veteran misses OTAs, let alone a rookie!

Again, not bashing him. I love the pick and he will be such a monster on this defense, it just rubs me the wrong way when a player puts school ahead of something so vital as OTAs. Thoughts?

finishing school shows he is committed to what he does. he'll be fine.

And thats fine. Do it like Cam and Luke in the off season. Look how much it set Cam back missing OTAs and he had been in the NFL for a few years already, for a rookie missiing OTAs is a huge deal. You left school to pursue your caree and profession as a NFL player.

I think you're being a bit selfish, the guy was drafted for what he will do years down the road not just one season. You have to admire anyone that wants to finish school after becoming a millionaire

He HAS to miss them. That's the rules for players in schools that do quarters instead of semesters. Same thing happens to kids from Stanford and other schools I can't remember off the top of my head. NFL can't let them participate until the school year is done. Schools on the quarter system go longer than the semester schools.

Shaq is a true football player and playmaker in every sense of the word. He'll be fine, hopefully he's as dedicated to film study as he is to completing his degree.

We could have another NFL Man of the year in our midsts, and a true replacement in all manner of ways as TD, who will be his mentor.

Even if the player who's university is on the quarter system wanted to ditch classes he wouldn't be allowed to work out per an NFL rule dating back to 1990. They can attend one session of some sort of workout but OTAs are out of the question.  I think he will be there Friday if I am not mistaken.
