Looking for a roommate/apartment suggestions

Hey all,

I'm moving to Charlotte in late May after I graduate veterinary school this Friday. I've been trying to find a place online but haven't been able to check anywhere out since I live in Mississippi. Anyone know of some decent places to live or people looking for a housemate? I am hoping to keep rent and pet fees (I will be bringing a dog) under $850. I'll be working at Carolina Veterinary Specialists (all 3 clinics: SW Charlotte, Matthews, and huntersville. I think the South Park, Dilworth, and Ballantyne areas are great but will be open to pretty much anywhere (I've heard east Charlotte other than parts of NoDa and Plaza Midwood can be less than ideal).

Let me know!

You're gonna fall in love with the Charlotte highway system if you have to travel between clinics. I think you might do better to find a place near the 485/77 around Pineville.

If you work one clinic a day or two and don't have to commute from one to another during the day, it'll be so much better for you. Could easily spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour just getting from one to another.

Thanks. I'll change clinics about once every couple weeks. I have been looking in the Pineville area as well. Craigslist is sketchy as always, but I have been checking there along with other rental areas. Just haven't found the "one" yet.

For where you're working, Dilworth, south end, Carmel/ Johnson road and South Park areas are where you want to be. But, you hit the nail on the head and the areas you are looking at are the best areas without going into North Charlotte. Most of east Charlotte I don't like personally; it's too spotty and hipster crowds annoy me.

With that budget, you can easily find a nice apartment, condo or house.

From Dilworth all the way to Pineville to Blakney,Ballantyne, Marvin and Waxhaw over to Weddington, Providence road and as far south east to Mint Hill are all good areas along with everything in between going up into the city from south Charlotte.

I wouldn't go past Matthews going further in from Mint hill and wouldn't go west of South Blvd and the 51/485 exit although around south, South tryon isn't bad near Lake Wylie and Pineville isn't bad either as long as it's not north of south blvd/51 crossing, that's a confusing area south blvd/Polk is real nice until you hit the area where Polk turns into south blvd, then it gets bad. On providence road you can go from Audrey Kell all the way up until around read road extension/Randolph/Sardis and be fine and even a bit further.

Huntersville is very nice and it's out away from most of the traffic congestion. Straight shot about 15 miles down I-77 to downtown CLT. And I-77 isn't that bad even during rush hour, I-85 & I-485 are the ones you wanna avoid.

77 isn't bad during rush hour? Is there another I-77 I'm not aware of? Granted, 85 is no picnic, either. I'm lucky enough to avoid both for the most part on my commute.

I live in Plaza-Midwood. For my money, it's the best neighborhood for a single twentysomething, but NoDa and Southend definitely have their perks as well. PM is also pet friendly, and a budget of $850/mo is reasonable for the neighborhood, but several places do start $900 and up.

Have you actually driven on I77 during rush hour?  It is pretty bad.

Horrible heading north on I77 in the evening....gridlock between 485 and Exit 23/25.

  • 1 month later...

I ended up getting a one bedroom apartment in Plaza Midwood with my pet for under $700. I love it here (both Charlotte and PM); I think I made the correct choice. I started work this week and have had no traffic issues at all since I'm going against traffic most of the time. Thanks for all of the help! Now I just need to find time to get off work to go to a game!

    • I know that. I'm not predicting it. Just putting the information out there so I will have receipts for later on when this dude turns into a stud at this level too.  It's kinda bittersweet, he'd help our offense out a great deal, but I'm wanting a QB next draft, so adding another weapon for Bryce is counterproductive in that regard.
    • I'm not sure if NO will be as QB aggressive as some assume.  They may focus on landing a top line prospect and slow rolling the rebuild for next year.  Could see them roll the dice in R3-4 to compete with Rattler, maybe a Howard fit.     I think the QB starved team's just take the gamble the Saints don't want Sanders, and target a mid to late 1st pick for a trade up to land him.  Still don't think Milroe or Shough are going R1.   But I think what may get lost in the trade up talk is about it being QB specific. A top team trying to get over the top could be the juicy trade (or two) that happens in round 1. Something I've flirted with is how aggressive Buffalo could be.  They have the ammunition for a big trade up, and I think Golden would pair super well with Coleman.  They need to cut to the chase and get playmakers there for Allen.  So yeah, love the idea of a BUF/ATL trade where they move up for him.  I'm even thinking about LAR getting aggressive for Warren or Loveland.  Imagine McVay rolling into 2026 with that added piece for a future QB...
    • Unfortunately, Ice, there are some blueprints of hybrid LB/edge players who were busts too--Everette Brown is one, but he was forced into a 4-3 DE role here.  I would say that the 3-4 defense has a lot of wiggle room for hybrids at the OLB/Edge position--I am just not seeing Walker as an elite player at any one role.  Coverage?  Rushing the passer from the 9?  And at his size... If we take him, I hope that I am wrong because there are some personalities I really would love to be on this roster.  Jihaad Campell is one.  Bech is another.
