If we could somehow land Lael Collins, it would be HUGE.  Doesn't matter if we have cap space or not, we make cap space.  The amount any team could offer him is limited, so we would absolutely make whatever room necessary.

can you name a better spot for him than carolina?  He will start here.  He will play along side his teammate at LSU, and he will be playing for a playoff caliber team.  what more could he want?

 

he could stay at home and sign with the saints. who were a half game away from our playoff spot.

 

or he could go to a team that offers him more money.

 

or maybe we want him at OT and he'd rather be a guard somewhere... or vice versa.

 

i mean the patriots need a guard too. so do the seahawks. and the colts. and other playoff teams. and the raiders/jaguars/bucs with all that cap space.

 

i really doubt playing with trai turner means that much to him. get a grip.

i'm sure his agent will find some nflpa loophole. isnt there a cap on the rookie pool or something? if a team has less picks maybe they can spend more. etc.

If he signs here, it would further Gettlemans genius GM status.

He got rid of several picks and thus contracts. If he tells La'el, hey man, once you're cleared we're going to sign you and pay you as a first rounder, and u can come in and play almost immediately, then Gettleman's draft may have just become one if the best ever in modern day history.

That's a big IF though, but it's not as far fetched as it sounds

I'm guessing their signing La'El Collins whenever they get a chance to as an UDFA, to come out of that draft with no real offensive line help, to reach for Shaq Thomspon, to trade up for Devin Funchess who has a lot of bust potential, I just have not heard scouts say good things about the players they took, and about they way they took them, but then again, you never know, Dave Gettleman and the Panthers may get the last laugh, none of us know how this is going to shake out, as I talk to people now in real time, these are some of the things you pick up, and the Browns.. Perhaps the most important tidbit, though he didn't give a reason, is that La Canfora believes that Collins is coming to Carolina. Listen to the second vid that autoplays on the story's page, where La Canfora is reviewing the draft, and go to about 1:50. While basically throwing shade on our draft, LaCanfora pointedly says that he believes Collins will likely be a Panther.

Even if he thought he was being sarcastic, the fact is he said it and that to me means it's still obvious to even a blind man. No other team makes as much sense and you don't have to be a Panther homer to see it.
