Home Workout Advice Needed

Mark S

Recommended Posts

So I decided it's time for me to start working out and I need the help of fellow Huddlers. I'm 16, 5'9" and 115 pounds. So obviously I'm pretty small. Well anyways I have a few problems, I can't go to a gym due to lack of transportation and I don't have any home workout equipment (treadmills, dumbbells, etc.). Also, I don't really want my parents knowing because their mindset is "You're skinny, why do you need to work out?". And I eat more than anyone in my family, so I don't think a lack of food is my problem. So I want to start looking basically bigger and without equipment. What I have is my home and my neighborhood to run in.

So do you guys have any advice on how I can achieve this goal? I'm willing to put the time and effort in and please be specific on the things I need to do. Thanks.

I don't think pull ups are an option sadly. Do you have an idea of the reps of push-ups and stuff I should do?

Push ups never did it for me. I have a bar and I think it works better. I really like to do tricep dips. All you need is a chair or something

Also I don't think your dad would have a problem if you went to him and said that you feel like you want to add some muscle. He may be happy to help, he might even be willing to spend some cash on some weight lifting stuff to put in the garage or an unused room in the house. If so, check out craigslist for some deals on dumbbells, kettlebells or a bench set

Kudos to you for wanting to workout at your age...

Body weight exercises are what you're going to have to do if you can't get to a gym or get some equipment.

Eat healthy, do pushups and pullups and run your ass off.

See if you can find some P90X stuff online or buy some used DVD's, those programs are pretty good.

alright listen kid im going to spit some serious game at you right now.

It's possible you're not done growing yet. It's also possible you're barely producing testosterone at this point. Long story short, hypertrophic growth is not going to occur for you. That means you can't pump up your arms by doing poo loads of curls.

You're probably pissed off because you're little and other big guys are getting laid. This is true. this is the fact of life. Guys that are big in highschool now won the genetic lottery. there's nothing you can do about this.

You are going to make absolutely no gains in your bedroom doing dips and pushups at this stage in your life. you need to put a barbell on your back, pick up a barbell, and press it over your head, when you're older.

study hard, get into a good school, start lifting when you're older. Get to school, read Starting Strength, and start lifting.

just play like pokemon now or whatever. fuging high school girls sucks anyway they don't know what they're doing.

    • First on T-Mac, I 100% expect him to be the top WR from this class, however I think expecting him to put up 1k+ as a rookie isn't necessarily fair, especially since you're putting it in perspective of how many other rookie WRs have done that in recent years. And Thielen is the reason for that. Not many (if any) of those 1k+ rookies had someone like Thielen there when they were drafted, and no matter how good T-Mac is this year, Bryce is still going to lean on his existing chemistry with Thielen unless he's drastically lost a step this offseason and just can't get open like he's been able to in his career. As I pointed out in another thread the other day, looking at MHJ last year is the way to look at T-Mac's season if Thielen plays a full and healthy season.  MHJ had McBride "steal" 110+ catches and 1,100+ yards in what was a pass happy offense (Kyler was 9th in the league in attempts), it's going to be hard for any rookie to put up more than the 800ish yards he had last year in that scenario.  Especially if we follow a similar game plan to last year and be a run heavy team. In terms of XL, you're completely right, jumping up to get a project 2/3 isn't smart, and if we knew we needed a future slot from that pick, yes, Ladd would have been a much better pick. But at this point, those are all sunk costs, even taking T-Mac at 8 is now considered a sunk cost. Forgetting the past or who we maybe should have taken last year now knowing future roles, I still think T-Mac, XL, Coker can be one of the Top 1-3 WR rooms in the NFL in a few years, I honestly think they really do have that potential in them.
    • Maybe we should have just drafted a corner?  Crazy, I know.  One of the few positions we knew had to be addressed in the draft and nadda.
