Boone DT

The way everyone other than lewis has looked this preseason, I would not be that surprised if we cut them all and signed 3 new DT's.

Hayden has gotten thrown around like a little girl. And there is even less than him as backups.

I would keep Favorite and jetson the rest of the garbage. I even would get rid of Lewis if he wouldn't create such a cap hit. We really need to just gut this interior line and start from scratch.

i've been thinking this guy was a possibility for a good while.

he was a DT for the bears for most of his career. he has a lot of experience playing with a good defense. they run a tampa2 so knowledge of it would be beneficial.

he isn't a bad run stopper even if he is smaller than what we would like.

he comes with a nice price tag.

only reason he got cut was that they switched to a 3-4 and had him as a DE which he is not.

as a DT in a 4-3 he will do well.

we could do a lot worse. we are doing a lot worse.

whether you guys like it or not, this is the way they are going to fix the DT problem this year. this is how they addressed the OG job last year. bring in as many low dollar, low risk, decent potential guys that have been cut from other teams and see what works.

we were going to be using a heavy rotation anyway. better this guy being rotated in than what we have right now and what is currently available.

Hmmm. Don't know much about this guy but all I can really tell form his stats is that during the one year (2007) when he started every game, the Chiefs were 28th in the league against the run (130.6 rushing yards/game). Can't put it all on him of course, but he was part of the package.

At this point, let's just get some more options in. These guys with plenty of experience can't be worse than Hayden.

Unfortunately we had those guys at G for all TC and Preseason to evaluate them we now have approximately 3 days to evaluate Leonard and no time really after anyone that is picked up after the final cuts. I really think our FO screwed the pooch on this one. Too little too late.

This is not a fix. What the FO is doing is like putting a band-aid on a severed arm.

I am on the fence about this guy although he is a veteren and he has played on good defenses in the past. But jeez we haven't even signed him yet, the story says we would sign him today and nothing has happened yet. I'm wondering if they will wait until after cuts Saturday before they sign this guy.

there were no available options until now.

they were looking but no one is going to be getting rid of DTs until time for cut down the rosters.

last year they had time. they went into the offseason with a plan to get bigger on the line.

this year they had something happen that couldn't have been expected all that much. your big NT goes down you don't find those guys lying around all over the place. you don'[t even see DTs lying around those guys are at a premium much more than OGs.

kemo's achilles is what screwed us.

if you think they should have prepared better, probably but they had other places to shore up as well. no NT or DT that was going to be available where we were picking was going to be starting anyway. they fixed what the could with the best available options and hoped that the areas that didn't get addressed would be fine until they could get a good solution there as well.

if they had addressed DT or tried to get a big NT (which would have cost a whole lot more than we could have afforded thanks to fat albert) then something else would have been broken and everyone would be whining about how they screwed the pooch with that one.

something is going to break. you do the best you can to prepare for each potential break but you can't fix everything that isn't broken yet. there was no reason to think that kemo was going to go down.

we needed a DE in case we couldn't get peppers back. (brown)

we needed help at DT (corvey irvin to replace an old damione lewis and we also got several big UDFAs)

we needed depth on the OL. (robinson)

we needed help in the secondary, esp. at CB. (martin and munnerlynn)

we needed someone to help in case we lost an aging hoover. (in case you haven't noticed FB is vital to the running game here).(fiammetta)

we needed better options for returners after losing mark jones (munnerlynn and goodson)

we needed another option for jake to throw to (goodson, remember they first talked to him about playing slot receiver)

the offseason didn't play out like they expected. oh well.

you deal with the hand that is dealt you. that is what they did and what they are doing.

When I heard saw his name as a likely cut, it struck me as familiar I made a mental note to research him to see where I'd heard of him before. Didn't get to do that immediately due to the whole thing with the Richardson kids (same deal with Andrew Carnahan and more recently with Sean Mahan).

I'd been expecting a starter acquisition and a depth acquisition. When they got Leonard, I originally thought he was the depth signing and the starter signing was yet to come. That still could be true, but looking at Boone I'm also wondering if I might not have had it flip-flopped. Also could both be depth, but that'd mean yet another acquisition to come (assuming they stick).

Could there be yet another guy coming? Possible I suppose, but assuming they keep at least Lewis and Corvey Irvin, you have to wonder how the roster shapes up.
