Alfonso Boone - DL Sep. 2 - 4:41 pm et

The Panthers are expected to sign free agent DT Alfonso Boone on Wednesday.

It'd be a solid pickup. Boone is past his prime, but could function as a run-stopping wave tackle in Carolina. He also has a pretty good handle on coordinator Ron Meeks' scheme after playing for Herm Edwards and Lovie Smith.

the biggest reason we stunk up the joint last year on D was b/c of our one dimensional DTs.....Fox needs DTs who are solid in pass rushing for his schemes to work.......it is really tough to get excited about bringing in sub par scrubs who specialty is being somewhat good against the run. Fox needed to bring someone who could do what Kemo couldn't do (and that was before the injury)......now are focus is on bringing in a crappier version of Kemo.

Guys remember that we have very little cap space to play with. If we can get a servicable rotational guy for minimum, it is not a bad move.

greater expectations than that simply aren't realistic. It's hard enough to find a DT with cap room in FA and picks in the draft with both above average pass rush and stuff skills. To find one under our circumstances is going to be more of a struggle at this point.

I think they still can find some one better then a 33 YO never was type player. Since we do now have the run-stuffer we desperately needed 3 weeks ago I think the FO will and needs to wait until final cuts until they sign someone else. And seeing as we are looking for a starter at DT we probably can chose anyone of the players that don't have to clear waviers. It's basically every DT best chance to start.

    • I don't understand this. He threw a 10+ yarder to David Moore on an out route yesterday. I mean DMoore went straight, then 90° to the sideline. He caught the ball about 5 yards from the sideline. Is that not an out route? Yeah, wasn't to the sideline, but if BY had thrown to the sideline it would have been overthrown by 5 yards. I don't get it. Either y'all just make poo up, I have no clue what an out route is, you aren't really talking about out routes, or y'all have never actually watched a game. I'm 99% confident that wasn't the first out route I've seen BY throw to. I mean, they are very common routes in the NFL.
    • Until the last few games, you could honestly say he was the worst qb on the roster.   I am still not sure he is the "guy" but I am a little encouraged by the last few weeks, essentially since the second half of the Denver game.
    • I wonder how things would have gone for Dalton if he hadn't lost Thielen after the 3rd game of the season. AT may be past his prime in terms of speed, bur he still has his hands and ability to get open. I think his presence was sorely missed after the Raider win. At this stage of his career he is they type of WR QB's like to have as a security blanket. I agree with you on Bryce's arm. As some one pointed out earlier, he still hasn't demonstrated the ability to throw an out route consistently. BY's TD passes tend to come on short passes. Our receiving core this season really hasn't score TD's on explosive plays when he is behind center. I don't know if its possible at this time in his career, but our team would be a lot better if BY could improve his arm strength/throwing power this offseason.
