Cotchery's Situation

So I'm already starting to see a lot of depth chart speculation and there's some mixed opinion on Jerricho and thought this would generate some conversation.

Now last season, Avant began it as the shiftier 3rd option for us outside of Cotchery and Benjamin.  We had guys banged up early, then Phill and Bersin looked respectable early.  Brown had a 7-66 game week 3.   We cut Avant after it looked like Philly provided adequate support in this department/and/or for other reasons.  The WR structure from there on out was Benjamin-Cotchery with Brown.  Bersin was the 4th option.  So my question is how do things roll out for Jerricho?

The given:

WR1-2

Benjamin

Funchess

Slot/3

Ginn/Brown?

4-6 Competition

Cotchery/Boykin/Hill/Bersin

PS

Byrd/Presley/etc.

So..how are you reading this receiving corps?  Is he worth keeping or would you have it so we could see what we get out of Boykin/Hill? Or is this something we kinda figure out in preseason?

He may be kept as a veteran presence but I don't anticipate him getting much playing time at all. Won't be higher than 4 on the current depth chart. Wouldn't be surprised if he's cut though. Just have to wait and see.

We are keeping 6 WRs max. The Vin Towers start. Keeping Ginn and Brown to run go routes. Boykin plays Special Teams, so he stays. Last spot is between Hill and Cotchery. If Hill has improved, he's the guy. Sorry Jerricho, it's not your spot to win, it's Hill's to lose.

Considering that Hill couldn't even crack the 53 with the WR corp that Carolina had last year, I'd say it's nowhere near his job to lose.

It probably is. The #6 WR usually doesn't dress on gameday anyway, that's why I lean toward Hill right now. It may very well shake out differently in camp, but until then, that's how I see it. Keep Hill to either suit up or keep working on things. More upside with him than Cotch.
