As the draft wraps up I want to share a cautionary tale of taking Draft Grades seriously. There are people in the media that think so highly of themselves they will evaluate and criticize the draft picks with absolutely no knowledge of team philosophy or talent evaluation. So I present to you exhibit P:

Here are some of the highlights of his career:

Carolina Panthers
Best Pick: Third-round guard Trai Turner is a physical player who can help upgrade their inside running game.
Questionable move: For me, it's taking receiver Kelvin Benjamin in the first round. I think they had better options at the position.
Third-day gem: Fifth-round corner Bene Benwikere isn't a burner, but he's the type of corner who could come in and fit in their scheme.
Analysis: I didn't like their first two picks in Benjamin and pass rusher Kony Ealy. They had other needs. They needed to pick an offensive tackle and they didn't.
Grade: D

  
His favorite pick from 2012:

Best pick: Fourth-round receiver Joe Adams is a nice player. He has the look of a good slot receiver.

  
His 2011 Grades.....

Best pick: Third-round defensive tackle Sione Fua is a power player who will help at a position of dire need.
Questionable move: Taking Cam Newton with the first pick in the draft after taking Jimmy Clausen last year. Newton is a very high risk-reward prospect.
Third-day gem: Sixth-round linebacker Lawrence Wilson was a productive player at Connecticut who will add speed to the linebacker group.
Analysis: Their draft will be defined by Newton. If he becomes a star, this will be a nice draft. If he busts, heads will roll. I like the pick of two defensive tackles after the Newton pick.
Grade: C

  
I love this header: Re-grading the 2011 NFL Draft: The time I gave Christian Ponder an A

2011 grade: C
The skinny: They took Cam Newton with the first overall pick, and he has proven to be worth it. Newton is among the top 10 to 14 QBs and has a lot of good football in front of him. The rest of the draft was a big bunch of nothing. The only player other than Newton still on the roster is backup receiver Kealoha Pilares. That's awful.
How I did: I questioned the decision to take Newton with the first pick because they had just taken Jimmy Clausen the year before. Oops. I also liked the pick of defensive tackle Sione Fua (now with Denver) in the third round.
Re-grade: D (Only because of Newton or it's an F).

 
So the 2011 draft would be defined by one pick, Cam Newton. Cam to his surprise was a massive success and his grade got worse. That just doesn't make sense Pete Pistachio. 
 
So I'm sure people will take a look at the draft grades in the coming days. Be amused but don't take them seriously. Everyone was laughing at Gettleman in May and praising him in December.

My favorite Prisco story is when he wrote a piece listing his top ten quarterbacks in the league, and put Chad Pennington at number ten.

 

A few days later a fan asked him a question about Pennington, and Prisco said he didn't think he was a top ten quarterback :lol:

True Story: A few years back at training camp, I got asked by a random fan if I was Pete Prisco :blink:

 

I think it was because I had a notebook with me and I was taking notes.

 

You'd think the fact that I was wearing a Panthers jersey at the time would have been a clue :unsure:

It seems like the Panthers have more random analysts talking crap.....

DG always looks like a genius genius because he always drafts bpa. Look at last year's panthers draft and how it ultimately turned out.

You noticed that too, eh?

 

Prisco uses the word "need" a lot, and grades drafts based on whether he thinks you filled it or not.

Actually almost all of the talking heads believe in drafting for need and that's why you can't take their unprofessional opinions seriously.

 

I hadn't examined them all on that front, but I have a suspicion you may be right.

Absolutely. Todd McShay was pissed when we took Devin Funchess instead of a tackle. Like legitimately upset that we didn't take an OT that Gettleman didn't have rated as high.

      100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.

Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
