Too Dependent Upon Smith?

who up here thinks delhomme is too dependent upon smith in the passing game?

don't get me wrong, smith is unworldly good, but i want delhomme to spread the ball around a bit more, get muhammed, the TE's, and some others some passes.

that's just my opinion.

I don't at all.

I think we have been doing perfectly lately.

I want the OC to let the game dictate and/or do whatever we need to do to upset the gameplan of our opponent and win.

I think Davidson has implemented a specific strategy the past 2 weeks. It seems like we have looked for Moose early to get the reliable catches and loosen up the D for Smitty and DWill to get going.

It is the best strategy IMO but it would be good to try to get the others involved early as well. Other teams will see that on tape and try to cover Moose tighter perhaps opening up some of the others.

I don't he's to dependant ALL the time.. but I think he is for the most part.

The Passing game goes thru Smitty when he's on teh field.

Jake has his weapons. But, use what you need to.

Moose and Jarrett and King on those nifty lil slants and such were someones gonna get creamed.

Smitty is the deep threat mostly and the "need a big play now" guy. but... We've had Moose down field, and King and even Jarrett this year.

but we've had a lot of drops on those. At the point... minus King with his, and Hoov with his... I think most of our receivers have been catching the ball... Jake is 43-63 in the past 3 games where our Runnign game has been a big deal. (GB/TB/DEN)

With the running game, comes a better Jake passing it around.

All the other times he's blamed for stare'n down Smitty... well.. mostly back a year or so ago.. he's all we really had and needed him all the time. LOL

I think Jake is getting it to the guy that gets the most yard per pass as of late... Moose/Smitty/King/Jarrett... they've all had catches. Hell.. Even when Jones caught his first 2 WR position catches of her career they were for 19 and 13 rescpetivly.

getting it done with more than one this season Jake is I believe.

And it's just gonna get better as we get into the playoff season.

? He has been spreading it around. He's been looking for Jarret on 3rd downs. Been targeting Moose (sometimes more than what he should), and finds King every now and again. Rosario gets thrown to a fair amount when he's allowed to run a route. I mean, Steve is always gonna be the most explosive threat on either side line, if he's open, throw it to him. I just don't understand this argument after this game.

Smith causes teams to change their defense to try to contain him. The Panthers try to take advantage of that. For the most part that means either running it to a certain side or looking for Moose over the middle. The offense is really dictated by how teams play Smith. And the second Jake sees single coverage, he calls and audible and gets him the ball. It seems Davidson has really got a great feel for this team the last 4 games or so and is calling a great game.

Funny how the talking heads were all saying recently that they don't get it to Smitty OFTEN ENOUGH. If your best playmaker is in a position to make a play, I have no complaints going to him. He has 70, Moose 54, King and Rosario have 20 & 18 respectively.

Now, I WOULD like to see Williams more involved in the passing game. He has 22 receptions, but I don't think he has been as involved in the passing game as he could be.

DeAngelo Williams: 1229

Jonathan Stewart: 751

Steve Smith: 1240

Muhsin Muhammad: 764

Look at those four yardage stats and tell me we aren't a balanced offense. Not only is our passing game balanced with our running game, but look at just how close Williams' yards are with Smith's, and Stewart's with Moose's. Virtually identical.

Now, do I think we could benefit from spreading the ball around to the tight ends more? Sure, but only if other avenues--such as Smith--are not working. In the past, Jake has locked on to Smith a bit too much. When defenders swarm over him, Jake really didn't have any other options.

This year's different. We've got some good receivers behind Smith, but more than this we have a running game that absolutely must be accounted for.

That being said, we'd be stupid not to use Smith--arguably our greatest offensive weapon--to the fullest.
