Cam Newton Winner from Day 2

Recommended Posts

I think it's pretty obvious.

Mike Shula has made a career out of traditional power O running. He's been using Chud's playbook but he's never coordinated a prolific passing attack. Last year in the playoffs we ran three man routes almost exclusively. Everyone else blocked.

I like the Funchess pick but I'd love to see a better offensive coordinator utilize him.

Well, to be fair we weren't running three man routes out of desire, but out of necessity. Our improved OL was still pretty much hot trash. We were having to run a lot of max protection.

I do think the catch radius stuff is overblown. The majority of Cam's passes do not require a freak with 35" arms. They just require sure hands that won't drop them. He had a pinpoint pass to Greg Olsen down the seam against Seattle that is just classic Cam. He had a pinpoint pass to Cotchery against Seattle in the regular season I think and it was dropped in the endzone.

Remember that perfect pass he threw to Steve for his last touchdown with us? Sniff.

I think Ron Rivera's explanation might have been better. He creates match up advantages. If we can force a team into Nickel with 22 personnel, that makes our offense versatile. Imagine Funchess and KB at X and Z, then you have Olsen as a split end and Dickson in line. Now you have a passing attack that must be respected and you retain the option to run.

I nearly choked on my saliva when Ron suggested going 4 wide. When I look at our current WR corp, assuming everyone is healthy and Funchess lives up to his draft slot. We have enough variety and talent to open it up and play 4 and 5 wide sets. I just don't know if we have the expertise to teach it and execute it. How is Mike Shula going to explain a play with 5 receiving options to Cam Newton?

LOL, I was ready to run through a wall for you until that last line.

It's not crying, it's business. Yesterday was the first sign I've seen of actually investing in Cam. I'm a panthers fan and the last thing I want is for Cam to get paid to be a game manager.

KB wasn't an investment in Cam?

Trai Turner?

Extending Olsen?

if gettleman actually did take Cam's tendency to err to the high side into account when picking Delvin Funjamin, then he is most certainly playing at a higher level than most of the other GMs.

Personally, I think he views the roster as a fluid thing and takes players who he thinks will be great assets and flexible in their abilities.  Picking players based off of other players, even if it is the QB can be a dicey proposition.
