La'el Collins Agent: Draft Him Now Or He Won't Sign

Recommended Posts

Let's compare Kelvin Benjamin and Tre Boston, our 1st and 4th round picks last year.

Kelvin Benjamin: 4 yr(s) / $7,664,250 $3.8m Signing Bonus, $6.1m Garaunteed

Tre Boston:4 yr(s) / $2,625,468 $405k garaunteed

So a late 1st round pick makes more the day he signs the contract than a 4th rounder does in 4 years of play. It's significant when you consider the 4th rounder could blow a knee in mini camps and never collect that 4 years of salary.

Its also significant that a $405k guaranteed contract is more than an average American will make in almost 6 years making $75,000 a year. Sure 6 mill is alot different than 405k and he has a window to make this money, but he literally has no power in this situation

I knew somebody would throw out the "he is rich, show him no mercy!! HHRRMMPPHH!!!"

Great opinion bro, very intelligent and well thought out.

His power is to not sign and re enter the draft next year.

Yes he can. Why would the agent put it out there if it wasn't possible. Bo Jackson did it to the Bucs.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the new CBA changed it... Maybe not. I don't know.

Thanks? Hopefully this post is more thoughtful and mind pleasing than the previous one...bra/brochaco/obi-bro-kanobi?

True, it is his power, but you and I both know it will do more damage then good. What is he going to do for the year he isn't in the draft?

He cant go back to college and play.

If he goes arena, or Canada, what if he gets hurt? Career ending injury?

If he sits out a year, he wont be in shape like he could if he was with a NFL weight training staff, knowledge of the playbook, and will start new, 1 less year on a already short time clock for football players (outside of star players, the average player is 3-4 years) ask Maurice Clarett how his value/being in shape was after missing an entire year of football at college and NFL.

I feel bad for the guy, he could be completely innocent and is just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, BUT he is doing more damage than good by not entering the draft. If it was me hell ill take what I can get, prove myself and out perform that contract and earn a better one. This is his dream and could damage himself more to not even be able to play a snap

Now nobody will touch him because of what his agent said. You can't go back into a draft if you're undrafted right? You'll just be an UDFA.

Believe he has to put an appeal to the NFL to draft eligibility and Roger and company either deny or allow it. If its denied he will have to enter a UDFA

Dorial Green Beckham sat out last year and landed a second round contract today. If he stays in shape someone will take him next year.

DGB was dismissed in what August? Re-applied for a hardship and was denied even though he was enrolled at OU? Still think he waa active with training staff etc at OU. No football from August to February, is alot different than no football from January 2015- July 2016
