Last week of incidents affected on our draft

I think that Shaq Thompson is a good football player and he'll make our defense even better, more versatile and unpredictable. But the Panthers were unlucky because without the Collins situation, Shane Ray arrest (he would've gone in the top 10) and weird Gregory slide, we could've had Humphries and possibly our LT for a long time.

Gettleman made the best out of a weird situation and didn't comprise his principles and picked the best player who fits us. We're unlucky, but as a football team we got better.

P.S. There's still hope that if Collins goes undrafted and is cleared, we can pick him up as undrafted free agent. He can start here at LT and play with one of his best friends.

The Collins situation very well could've prevented Humphries from getting to us, but no way to know for sure.  I'm not mad though, I was never big on Humphries to begin with.

neither was I, but obviously Gettleman saw something we didnt. I think Humphries may have been the pick if he hadnt been picked right before our pick.

I think the Broncos trading up is the reason we have Shaq and not DJ today.

I think Ray would have likely gone to AZ at 24 instead of DJ.  I am happy with the way it worked out, as I for one think Oher is going to be better than people think, and would rather have a guy that will make an impact this season with a higher ceiling than an under preforming OT.

Agree. I put this in another thread, call me crazy but the Saints picking outside their needs for Peat also diminished our chances for a first round OT.

I was surprised by their two picks. They needed offensive line help, but their defense needed more than a LB.

Didn't even think about this too. Man we got screwed 3 times over this one. With La'el on the board, Saints don't go OT, or Broncos not jumping up. I think if any one of those happen we have a OT.

In 2004 I was so high on Larry Fitzgerald. I wanted us to draft him so badly. Arizona picked him 2 spots before us & I was devastated. Devastated! We took Chris Gamble that year. Turned out to be a very good pick for us & he became one of my favorite Panthers to watch.

I learned my lesson. I will never again anticipate anything during the draft. It's a game I don't like playing any more. Our draft picks are now members of our Panther family & I'll support them just for that reason.

    • People are using this "three year period" to gloss over the reality that he was very mid last year and in Purdy's case, "last year" means 40% of his starts. I don't "hate" Purdy, I just think he's a very middle of the pack starter and you can't pay those guys $50M+ a year. GMs and coaches can because they just want to keep their jobs. But as a fanbase if you're wanting to compete for SBs, ugh... you're basically resigning yourself to mediocrity with decisions like this.
    • Unless a miracle happens and we're legit SB contenders, I want to just miss the playoffs due to some close losses, not win the division to lose in the first round. We finally have all of our picks again next year, I'd rather be picking 5-7 spots higher in each round, while at the same time, then having a 2nd or 3rd place schedule next year instead of a 1st place one. I just can't see any scenario where we are true contenders this year, but we should find out if Bryce can be our QB of the future.  If he isn't, then we're not making the playoffs anyways and will have a high pick to replace him.  If he is, it means 2026 is the real opening of our SB window once we add some more defensive pieces, so I'd rather go into that season picking earlier and have an easier schedule. And yes, I know people will say think like "you need to win to gain confidence and experience, blah blah blah" But just missing out on the playoffs because you lost couple close games is certainly a way to make a team hungry going into the offseason and keep them motivated to be better. I've said it before and still think it holds true, we need to look at the Lions and hope to repeat their path. Our last few years were their early 2020s when they sucked.  This year can be our version of their 2022 when they missed the playoffs in week 17.  Then our 2026 can be their 2023 when they made a run to the NFC Championship game (and really should have won it).  Which then puts us in line to be one of the best teams in the league going into 2027, as they were last year.
    • Hmmmmm, sounds like a familiar fear And sure, a big part of my fear was the injury concern (that will always follow Bryce around) but the everything else I said is the same. If he's too good to let walk in FA but not good enough to justify a top end contract, we're in the worst possible situation
