New team president: Danny Morrison

Our inside connection should not get away that easy.

Give us the dish!

What makes him so awesome?

Danny is a very knowledgeable, very professional administrator. He was athletics director here before being promoted to senior VP. He oversaw the building of the facilities now used by the Panthers, and was instrumental in making certain that they were exactly as they needed to be. Very meticulous. Very personable and well-liked. Strong personality, but someone who can bring about consensus as needed. Marketing is a strong suit for him. Big picture guy as well as having a keen attention to detail.

Why would hiring a team president reflect on JR's health. Clearly JR has always wanted to have a team president running everything and the day after his son retires, he hires one.

The Observer says it was Jerry's decision and it was over ongoing disputes about how the team was being run. I dunno, but the fact that they both resigned (not retired) less than a year after Jerry had a heart transplant does make you worry.

I'd worry less though if Jerry really was the one who made them resign.

Worth noting that, per comments from an NFL insider, the NFL "on-field year" and the NFL "business year" are on different calendars. This would technically be the time of year when most of the business type decisions would already be made and the mechanisms set in motion.

With that in mind, the timing isn't quite so mysterious.
