Yes, Shaq was indeed the BPA

Shaq said his agent told him anywhere from 20-50.

He just happened to fall on the early side because Humphries was gone, and the remaining WRs seemingly had 2nd round grades to GMan. Not hard to understand.

He also said he didn't expect to go first round. Booming with confidence

One thing I have learned, Gettlemen gets it.  If I don't get Gettlemen, then I need to do some soul searching to figure out not "If" Shaq was the best player available, but "how".  I see a player who can handle many roles.  We had some issues in OLB pass coverage last year.   Klien was eaten alive a few times.  We probably now have the fastest trio of LBs in the NFL.

For those who wanted a first-round OT.  Sorry, the value was not there--I don't think any OT in the draft will play before Oher   Under Matsko, Oher played well in the NFL--we can't say any T in the draft has.  anyway, so if you want your first rounder sitting, draft a T.  I see us looking to upgrade RT now.

Your elusive language paired with your high confidence in sources has been pretty off-putting this offseason (right or not).  Not saying its bad or anything but you're making yourself out to be quite on a high horse.  I'd ease it up a bit.

I have told people for weeks that NO ONE knows Gettleman's board.  The Panther's FO is tight as a drum.  There is no inside information coming out of there. The information can all be gathered from public sources. Gettleman and his employees are not going to release anything more than general information to reporters, bloggers, or fans.  He and his organization are professionals to a tee. Don't believe all the hype.

When Humphries went I was thinking..."poo! we're getting Landon Collins" but I gotta say this makes things really interesting and awesome for our D rather than getting an ordinary 1st round box-safety or over-hyped WR.  Versatility in the modern NFL defense is crucial.  Plus its one of 9 picks.  Bring on 2 & 3!

Like I said, it's not bad or anything just off-putting.  Love what he does here, no joke...just needs to tone down the "I'm right and know everything that's really going on in the org" attitude.  It's all in the vernacular.

That's not attitude. It's being knowledgeable. The posters that are screaming "well Gettleman better go offense these next 2 picks!!" have attitude. Attitude comes from stupidity, and I don't deal with stupid people.

I mean, the team has prospered since then, but I'm not sure if Bruce Irvin, he of the 16.5 career sacks, is even a top 10 reason why they've been so good. People were also really confused when the Eagles traded up in 2010 and took Brandon Graham over Earl Thomas. That one didn't really pan out. Usually confusing picks are confusing for a reason.

I would be 100% on board with the Shaq pick if I thought there was any chance of the Panther drafting La'el Collins (assuming they did enough due diligence to determine that he wasn't involved in the murder of his ex.) We all know that won't happen, though. I don't think the Shaq pick is a bad pick, just a little odd, but their board is their board and by know we all can expect them to take the top name on that board in the first round. Not all of us are going to see players the same way the FO does. I would like for them to end up with Collins and Tyler Lockett after their next two picks; that would make me a very happy camper after three rounds. Solid chance that both those guys are off the board by the time Carolina's third rounder comes around though, not to mention that Collins is a pipe dream with all the heat on him.

Collins may not get drafted at all, by anybody, and it's pretty stupid to bash the Panthers about it. I'd be pretty pissed if we started distracting ourselves with trying to prove 1 guy's innocence during the most important week of the offseason.

Get the draft right, worry about Collins when he's ruled out as a suspect by the police.
