7-8-1 with a tough schedule and winning the NFCS while playing a poo ton of rookies and second year guys and a QB that played on one leg and a broken back with no offseason. Yeah, again wrong in the best possible way.

Greg Hardy deal made sense at the time as it kept a pro bowl player on the team but had no long term commitments in order to make sure we can re-sign guys like Cam and Luke.

No one knew what was going to happen with Greg.

 

I would have rather had an LT for the next 8-10 years and maybe even another receiver than rent Greg Hardy.  I said it some time before the draft last year.  I was always higher on Alexander, Addison and Horton than most.  I think that we would have been better off that way. It's all water under the bridge now however.

Because we ended up 7-8-1, Cam got killed most of the season, and our receiving corps proved to be what the football world thought it was going to be.  But like I told teeray, the 2014 season is dead, rotten and forgotten.

 

You're right about most teams, but I would rather be like the top tier teams who are in the playoffs more years than not, and whose bad seasons may be 9-7 or 8-8.

 

I have given G-man the benefit of the doubt with his other top picks so far.  I am just skeptical about this one. Hopefully we can get some legitimate offensive weapons later in this draft.

 

Justin Hardy and/or Deandre Smelter would make me feel a lot better.

We were playing like one of the best teams at the end of last year...and im pretty happy that we have a GM and coaches that can put a team together that can play that way despite all of the things we still need to fix.

Oline still needs work.

Martin and Remmers are not long term solutions.

Cam didn't even make it out of the Exhibition games last season.

 

Still hopeful some more work is done on the Oline.

all I can say is that we now have our JOKER .... If you like defense, you should be in love with this pick. Our defense will be at the top of the league for many years to come now.

 

I really think we are done with the defense unless a pass rusher drops.

 

I'm fine with the pick, but I am not confident in our defense going forward after next year. We're already down to one good DE pass rusher, and Johnson will likely decline soon. We have to get good pass rushers, and that's not always easy to do even if you throw 1st round picks at it. That means we'll need some luck too.

For me OT is just inherently worth the trade up because of how important the position is. I won't argue that Gettleman feels the same way, because he clearly doesn't, I just wish he did.

I think that is a fair statement in my opinion.

I'm trying to get myself excited and see what some of yall are saying about his potential but I just don't really see it when I've been watching his highlights. (I'm not claiming I know better than gman, just trying to get behind the pick).

It doesn't look like he's an athletic freak or anything, he doesn't blow up gaps, I don't know. Just seems like he's pretty good at everything and not excellent at anything. I'm not against taking a Lb Rd 1, but I want him to be tenacious and pro ready.

I don't know how one acts like they are a Panthers beat writer, but if you think that that's something then you probably don't want to know what i really write about. 

 

I don't think that I know more than pro scouts, but what I do know is that not all pro scouts think alike, and not all of them are 100 percent right, or 100 percent wrong.  Even Gettleman admitted that he and his coaches and personnel department have disagreements. It just so happens that he is the boss. Like he said, "It's nice to be king."  

 

As a fan, I have a right to voice an opinion (on a message board no less). I don't think that a fan has to agree with the GM 100 percent of the time. Hell, I think that it's kind of weird for someone to agree with anyone 100 percent of the time. If it takes you to agree with someone 100 percent of the time to support, love and/or respect them, then in my opinion something is just not quite right.  That being said, I guess that someone can agree with another 100 percent of the time in theory.

Technically he's not just a linebacker. He's a Swiss Army knife with a little safety and running back mixed in with it.

 

Shaq only played one game at safety in his college career against Stanford last year.

 

I don't like the pick. I don't really see how Shaq fits on our defense or what his true position in the NFL is. He projects best as a WLB, but he is below average against the run. Maybe with Luke next to him that won't be an issue, but I'd rather not spend a 1st round pick on someone with such a big question mark. Ron said he will help a lot against 2 TE sets but how often do we face that? No one in our division even runs those. Hell, no one in our division even has one good TE save possibly ASJ. 

 

Is he TD's long term replacement? He very well could be, but in reality that should mean that this is TD's last year and we shouldn't even offer him an extension which is a really tough pill to swallow. Everyone has been pointing to the Luke pick and how that worked out and yes it worked out great, but if you remember it wasn't working out that great until Beason got injured in Luke's rookie year. Both Beason and Luke were both best as MLB's so one of them had to play OLB and neither were as good there. Beason was then traded for peanuts to the Giants the following year after failing as an OLB. What happened to Beason is likely what needs to happen to TD if this is going to be a great pick(not injured but moved on from). 

 

However, all the guys I wanted were gone so I'm not sure I would have liked it regardless of what happened. Ideally I would've liked to trade up and get Humphries giving up our 4th, but I have no way of knowing if that was even possible or a deal teams in front of us would have accepted. The Lions were obviously willing to trade down, but if I were them I would have taken the deal they got from Denver over what we could have offered all day. They turned the 23rd pick into two starting OL and extra picks which is amazing value. I would have taken that over our 1st and 3rd. I would have liked to trade down, but without even knowing what the offers were, if any at all, that's not really something I have any knowledge of so it's hard to be critical of that.

 

Right now, I'm very hopeful it works out and Shaq becomes as good as he can be because he is an amazing athlete and has the potential to be a total stud, but he has a lot of areas he needs to improve upon first.
