Round 2 big board

If we can't get Jake Fisher, I say we pass on a tackle until the 3rd round. After him the value just isn't there and we can find a player just as good in the 3rd.

I like Rob Crisp out of N.C. State in the 3rd. He's not a big name guy, but I think he can play left tackle in the NFL. He's not as raw as Clemmings or as much of an underachiever as Donovan Smith. May never be Pro Bowl material, but I think he'll be a solid NFL starter in time.

I agree WR is a huge need, but OT is a far more pressing need. We need a tackle to groom BAAADLY.

LOL I don't understand... I've seen this stated multiple places now...

It's almost like people forgot we have Remmers and signed Oher AAAAAND Jonathan Martin. In my mind, that's what we should've done with WR... Signed multiple guys with extensive experience starting with legit talent... But we didn't. Tackle is not as pressing as WR in my book. We have three guys who have started and been successful at different points in their career. To me, adding one to "groom" is a luxury, as virtually every other pick would be outside of WR.

WR is the only position where we still have, for lack of a better term, backups slated to start. We at least have starting-caliber players at tackle.

Oher was the 2nd worst tackle in the NFL last year, Martin has been bounced after being bullied, and while Remmer showed promise, he is still an unknown because his sample size is about 6 games.  There's a good chance we end up right in the dump at Tackle and get Cam killed.  Atleast at WR, we have KB who is a legit #1, Cotchery will be pushed out when we get someone in the draft, we have 2 sets of deep threats in Brown and Ginn, just need someone like a Lockett or Hardy and we're still good to go.  Also, don't forget, we have one of the best Tight Ends in the NFL right now.  I just don't think it's worth freaking out if we were drafting the 6th or 7th best receiver in the first.

I guess it's just a matter of preference...

Oher has said his problems were due to an injury last season. Not taking into consideration that he also is reuniting with the position coach he had the most success with. And I saw Oher play with the Ravens and matsko.. If we can get that guy, we have a legit LT.

Remmers started and was successful for us last season.

Martin may have needed a year to rebound from the Miami fiasco, and he ended up doing it with the extremely dysfunctional Niners... I won't hold that against him.

My point is, they all have started and we're successful at some point and all are relatively young still.

Imo, there is a huge disparity in talent from WR to any other position on the roster... And, even within the position, there is a huge disparity in talent from KB to everyone else. Cotchery should be a #4 and he is a #2. That isn't good.

This.  Lockett is quicker than Dorsett and catches no worse.  Kid is going to be a steal because everyone is glued to the golden goose 4.3 and going to realize once he gets in the league, he's not a true #2 but more of a slot guy.  Lockett is a small slot guy as well, but would be a real good get in the 3rd.

Dude, if we managed to get Fisher and Lockett, my life would be complete.

Their are only 2 legit deep threats left DGB and Smith

Someone tell the FO to stop being so frugal and get one.

I thought the same thing, but we have Ginn and (read link before judging) Hill.

IF we believe everything that hits the media, then the Panthers have to feel that they have the POTENTIAL to be better at WR this year than last year (same goes for OT).

Last year................................................This year:

Benjamin (as a rookie).........................Benjamin

Cotchery...............................................Cotchery

Philly Brown (as a rookie)....................Corey Brown (same player, just not a rookie)

Bersin...................................................Boykins (had more yards as a rookie)

Avant....................................................S. Hill (Proehl thinks he can develop Hill)

.............................................................Ginn (we have 2 WRs who can get deep fast)

We will add a #2 WR today, but does it need to be that deep threat?  I think Smith would be a nice addition, but someone like Rashad Greene--a great route runner and sure-handed technician has to have captured Proehl's eye.  I am guessing that we go WR in the second round and we take Greene or Hardy.   (neck out).

I agree with all of those points, hell, I'll even make the point that Oher played on the right side which is not his natural position which also lead to a downturn in effectiveness, but we are still in all of those cases in the "hopeful and optimistic camp".  Atleast with KB, we know we got a #1, with Ginn we know we have a speed guy.  I'll say straight away, if we get Funchess, Strong, Smith, Lockett or Hardy, Cotchery will probably not make the team.  I think on this issue, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Just stop

Cotchery, Ginn and Olsen are getting older and slower no way are they getting better

Hill couldn't beat out a god damn QB

Brown is an UDFA with limited potential whose injury prone.

Kelvin is the only who should improve.

We have possibly the worst receiving core in the NFL at the moment. Against the Cards and Hawks Cam needed to throw these guys open if not we were screwed.

We need more than one WR and we definitely need a deep threat that can stretch the fieq
