How good is Mike Remmers

When you had Chandler (who I like and is a good story) as your starting RT last year, it doesn't take much to see improvement. The RT last year had this as our depth chart...

David Foucault

Nate Chandler

Velasco

Gary Williams

Amini

We used those guys at tackles last year trying to find something, anything that could work. So when remmers was signed and stared 7 days later looks amazing, but look at the depth he had against him.

I hope Mike starts and does well and has found a home, but last year our depth and quality of line was so bad, mediocre would be like a diamond to us

That goes both ways though.  Guys who just aren't up to snuff don't get SIX tries.  Clearly there's something that six different teams have seen to bring the guy in, but it just so happens that we were the first team for which he actually produced on the field.  No way to tell if he can maintain it though.  Too small a sample.

I agree. He could just be a victim of circumstance and never truly got a chance, but it's way too early to tell. He filled in last year and made our line respectable enough to make a playoff run. For that I am thankful and even if he never plays for the Panthers again he has still done a great service to the team. Seems like a great guy too so I'm rooting for him.

Mike may have had a lower grade as the games went on because teams game planned for him, but I don't think we saw his ability to counter their game plan yet. That's why he deserves more time. It seems like if we don't draft an OT this year we feel confident enough to have Remmers start and Oher opposite of him. That's all you can ask for. If we are in the position to draft a stud RT I don't think we shy away from that. We'll upgrade somewhere. All we can hope is that we keep improving each year where we can and that we get lucky enough to improve in areas deemed "high value".

A lot of teams have JAG right tackles which is what he seems to be. That's a huge improvement over Chandler though so I can't take it for granted. I think he's good to go as our opening day starter at RT at least for this season.

He could develop into more because he's still pretty young and hadn't really stuck with a particular team prior to signing here but there still need to be arrangements made in case that doesn't happen. Ultimately I'd rather him be a really solid backup.

A lot of replies seem to be based on perception and statistics rather than people watching his performances. Up until the Seattle game I would say he was our most impressive lineman in the games he played. Go and watch those games and it isn't hard to see his impact in both running and pass protection.

Its a great thing that our front office had started to make decisions based on what they see on the field while a bit of a shame that our fans still spew "6 teams in 2 years" and "PFF grades reduced as he went on".

Also you have to remember, he really hasnt played in games before us. He could have hit a wall similar to the "rookie wall"

I really, really like Remmers. He mauled people in those first couple of games in the run game and was stout in pass pro. Seattle is just a different animal.

Competition is always a good thing. As it stands right now, he's one of if not the best tackle we have on the roster, which is obviously kind of sad. He's excellent depth at a minimum. Let's see if he can develop some more now that he's found a home.

what i really liked towards the end of the season when the line started to gel was they wanted to hurt people. they played angry. And i honestly think that mentality started with Norwell and he fed that energy across the line.
