Win-loss records don't lie. 

 

If say, we close out the year at 7-9 or 8-8, will Cam still be an elite QB in your eyes? Will he still be a franchise QB? Should he get the big, big contract?

 

If we get 10 wins under his leadership and get past the second level of the playoffs, I'll be comfortably able to say he has arrived and he's the real deal. I'll feel good that we'll be putting up a big contract for him and hitching ourselves long term to him. 

 

He's too good to go out and lay an egg with a 2-14 year, or even a 5-11, that's not even a worry. A 7-9 year, that's my worry.

Wins and losses, in the end, that is really what matters. Is Cam a better football player than Collins and Delhomme? Without a doubt he is!

He just needs to show this year that he has what it takes to bring the team into the winner's group. Until then, he really isn't a franchise QB, he hasn't earned the title. You don't become a franchise QB by being a marketing miracle, but by winning games and giving your team a chance to compete at championship level.

He has not lived up to that, yet. Yogurt, Gatorade, Under Armor, Belks, NFL Play 60... hey, it's cool to see him in commercials. Pro Bowl appearances look great. Good management and marketers can get you those things. Super Bowl rings take wins on the field.

I believe he has it in him. I really do. We just need to see him lead a team to the promised land, yanno?

And this is the year the team needs to see it, or we're looking at giving a big, fat contract to a guy who might never get us a championship. Phillip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Donovan McNabb, Jay Cutler ... the list of the almost was guys is pretty long. I want Cam to be a Hall of Famer, with multiple Super Bowl rings for us.

But we need to see something concrete, real soon.
