Panthro's 1st Round Prediction (and 2nd and 3rd)

So I have been thinking about this for a while...I have taken into account rumors, our needs, the overall draft class, and my ability to Gettle-Listen all to bring you who I think we are going to draft in the 1st round (and as a bonus the next 2)

If you listened to the presser yesterday Gettleman talked about scheme and the difference between 3-4 and 4-3 DEs. There is not a lot of players that really fit into the Panthers scheme based on the college game. So when I take everything into account I give you...

1st Round

Preston Smith DE Mississippi

I think the Panthers are high on him and really he might be one of the few DEs that really fits our scheme.

2nd Round

Devon Funchess WR Michigan

People have been dogging this guy for being slow but he showed that his 40 time in Indy was an aberration and improved his time from a 4.7 to a 4.47 at his proday. He is a Benjamin clone and a great value in the 2nd round. He will allow us to create huge mismatches and give Cam another BIG weapon. You can't teach 6'5 240.

3rd Round

So here I am trying to decide...I trying to predict this far as even Getts said the boards blow up early in the 2nd rd.

Daryl Williams OT Oklahoma

It is really a toss up between him and Duke Johnson for me. I think they see a lot of value on RBs in this draft so they pass on Duke here. I think Darly is one of those guys Getts has pegged as a LT in the NFL. He doesn't have to be rushed in but is serviceable in case the oher/martin/remmers experiment is less than satisfactory.

So In Funchess we get A bigger Jason Avant ?

Funcess is good, as I watched him quite a bit as a TE in college but IMO he would not balance KB as a complementary WR. You could still get two safties to play the run and have minimal concer about a deep threat in 2wr pkgs.

I think the speed focus Gettles has this season is still on but I definitely could see a DE in the first. I would hate it but...only for a day or two. So I can see this draft happening..but hope like hell none of it happens lol.

I would be a bit upset if we do not end up with a Dorsett, Devin Smith, Perriman playmaker type of WR after two rounds.

Devon Smith ran a 4.47 just like Funchess.

He is really being unfairly pegged as slow. The guy is fast. I think people look for compliments when you really can create mismatches.

It not that I wanted him I just predicted him.

So.... do you "want" Smith?

every year DE's go faster than predicted for a reason.  same with edge rushers.  the only thing I don't like about the pick is that it matches need more than bpa
