Rick Spielman Wants To Trade With Us (And Everyone Else)

We're more likely to trade up and grab someone we really like that starts falling in the 2nd round IMO. In that case, we could trade 57 (2nd), 89 (3rd), and 201 (6th) for 45 (2nd) and 137 (5th).

We'd be giving up 486 points and receiving 487.5 points of value: http://www.footballperspective.com/jimmy-johnson-draft-pick-value-calculator/

Doubt that Getts would want to give up a 3rd to move up 12 spots unless someone he really, really wants starts falling.

Stop, just stop. Do you even hear yourself?

I would have no problem with this trade, people think that just because we got studs in later rounds last year that the same will happen this year, I would make this trade. Remember you can point to Bene and Tre Boston just as easily as I can point to Kugbilla and Gaffney

I see several people quoting the draft value chart which was kind of a joke when it was made by the Cowboys in the early 90s. It doesn't mean anything. GMs liked it because they could point to it and say "we got fair value". Since then we've instituted a salary cap, free agency, a rookie wage scale, and added four franchises to the NFL. We've also reconfigured the structure of divisions which alters who makes the playoffs and draft order.

So simply put that chart is nothing more than a drink coaster at this point. Teams work out deals all the time with no regard for that chart.

After listening to that presser yesterday, ain't no way that's happening on DG's watch.

Something I took from Gettleman's interview was that he wished he had those two 5th rounders in last years draft. Does that mean he doesn't expect as many gems in this years late rounds? That would lend credence to packaging late picks to move up in the middle rounds.

Are you being serious?

If I were the Vikings, I would be stupid to take that deal.  From our end, it would be heaven.  Amari Cooper is easily the "Andrew Luck" of wide receivers.  That is to say a once every 10 years type of player.  Given G-man's talent of finding quality guys in the first few rounds and undrafted free agents, I would easily give up those late round picks.  We would still have a total of six picks, which is one pick shy of a given draft.  I would make that trade in a micro second on our end.

It may not be good or accurate but teams still use it. The majority of trades that don't include players or future picks still fit pretty closely to the values on the chart.
