Value, value, value, VALUE!

How is understanding value so difficult? If getting your 5th overall talent in the 15th is better value than picking your 24th talent in the 25th, then you calculate the value of picks 5-15 and compare it to the expected value of picks 25, 151, 170 etc. Part of the pre-draft process is calculating the expected value of talent at each of your draft positions based on the depth of each draft so you are able to package those picks and make a trade call.

Until people start understanding value, they're simply not going to be able to understand Gman's draft philosophy.

I think Gurley is going to test this, especially if he makes it into the top 20. I understand what you are saying and it makes sense, but it only depends on the grades given to the other prospects on the board at the time.

If DG thinks he has to go get somebody early because the value is there I believe he would but if another prospect is on the board that he's graded out as a first rounder is still available I don't think he will make a leap however miniscule it is just to get that blue chip player that is falling.

That said, we haven't seen what he does with this many picks and this few "needs" on the roster. Should be interesting.

#11 is worth 1250

#25, #57 and #89 is worth 1195

Our 1st, 2nd and 3rd is worth a little less than #11 but that's a doable trade given their desire to get more picks. Gettleman would never give up that much for one player. I probably would for only Amari Cooper but Gettleman wouldn't so the Vikings desire to move back doesn't matter to us unless they are willing to take something ridiculously undervalued.

The hardest bit of this for anyone not in the draft room is trying to figure out how much difference in value the FO has placed on certain players, mainly because it's such a personal thing. For example we've worked Peat out over three full days and spent 1 day with Devante Parker. Does this mean that Peat has a higher value then Parker in the Panthers eyes or that the FO just needed more time to grade out Peat? It's just guess work on out part.

If Peat had been given a 10th pick grade and drops to the late teens, and we think someone like Cinci or Pitt are interested in him, then it might make perfect sense to swap a fifth and sixth to move up and grab him. Not because we're reaching for a tackle, but because the value of the picks we're swapping out is less than the difference in value between where he would be taken and where we think he should be taken.

According to the draft trade value chart, we'd have to cash in our 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th to move up.  http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/draft/draft-trade-chart/

After listening to that presser yesterday, ain't no way that's happening on DG's watch.

Now we're talking, based on what Gman said yesterday about the depth in this draft being alot better than the top end talent, we'd probably have even higher value on the mid rounders than what Bartin posted. We would need to do a job convincing our trade partner that there was even more value on the mid rounders than what we've put on them, or find someone who was actively trying to move down.

Niners at 15 are a prime example where they're supposedly looking to move down if Armstead is off the board, but Balke is normally pretty tight with his moves.

I don't see gettleman moving up to more than pick 15, which by the way would take at least our picks 25 and 57. Which I don't think will happen as there will not be anyone worth trading up for at that pick. The way some people are talking, you would think that we are the only team in talks with teams to move up for a certain players. If there are more buyers than sellers, you will pay more, that is a fact of life.

I could see us trading up in the 3rd to grab a WR that slips or a guy the Panthers really like if we don't get one in the first two rounds. I'm not sold on taking a WR in the first, but we need to take advantage of this years depths at WR.

I think we will go DE or safety in the 1st unless Peat slips.

No way I would give up a 1, 2, and 3 for anyone in this draft.
