Mayock now sees 7 WRs going in the 1st R (previously, on Apr 10, it was 6)

With how bad our receivers were last year, we pretty much need a first round receiver.

I did statistical research a couple of years ago on the average draft position of what is considered to be an NFL team's "#1" wide receivers.

Turns out (at least a couple of years ago) that the average draft position of the leagues "#1" WRs was bottom of the 2nd/top of the 3rd round.

the Packers model is interesting. They haven't taken a WR in the 1st R since 2002 (20th overall Javon Walker of FSU, whose blew away the Combine: 6-3/210, 4.35 forty, 39.5 vertical, etc)

But, in 4 of their last 9 Drafts, the Packers have spent a 2nd R pick on a WR:

2006 / Round: 2 / Pick: 52 - Greg Jennings

2008 / Round: 2 / Pick: 36 - Jordy Nelson

2011 / Round: 2 / Pick: 64 - Randall Cobb

2014 / Round: 2 / Pick: 53 - Davante Adams

during that time (last 9 drafts), they also took 8 additional WRs in later rounds (3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th) as insurance

Look at most of the top WR from the last 5 years almost all were 1st round picks
