The plan is to give Ron what he wants/needs to make his defense look good. That's how the panthers want to win. They want 13-7 victories. No desire to become an offensive force.

Go back and look at the draft picks since Cam was drafted, hell Gettleman has drafted defensive line 3/4 of the top 4 picks the last two years and we still rank mediocre against the run.

FTR, saying it isn't as strong a WR class as last year isn't an indictment on this year's WR class, which is still very very good. I'm hoping we can capitalize on this one as we did with last year's

Why would we go defense in the first.

Because some combination of the following happens:

The tackles that we have first round grades on are gone or are most likely RTs.

The receivers that we have first round grades on are gone.

Of the receivers that are left we feel like we can comparable talent in a later round.

Gurley is gone

Edge rushers are more of the 3-4 type

Personally I would like to go OT in the first and receiver in the 2nd but 24 other teams might dictate otherwise.

We are not getting any of those guys on that list if we wait to the second round to take a receiver. The last 5 guys dont really impress me at all, certainly not enough to be the number 2 receiver on game day.

You are correct. All great quarterbacks need 2 first round receivers to be successful.

With how bad our receivers were last year, we pretty much need a first round receiver.
