Previously, he said: "I've got eight wide receivers with potential first-round grades. Of those eight, I think six will go in the first round," Mayock said

today he said:

Mike Mayock : I think this is an outstanding WR class...I could

Mayock on this year's WR class:

April 26

“I think that wide receiver and running back are elite, really good at the top end and depth throughout. The quarterback, tight end and safety classes are poor. The other classes are closer to average. That's a quick overview.”

Deeper =/= Stronger, necessarily.

Here's my biggest problem with waiting to address the WR position in the mid rounds: We already have a roster full of #3, 4, 5 receivers. We need someone to step in immediately and push Kelvin and give Cam another legitimate threat in the passing game. I have my doubts that a back end of third or fourth round rookie can step in and be an improvement over Cotchery, Ginn, Philly, or whoever else. Right now outside of Cam, Kelvin, and Olsen...defenses don't have a whole lot to game plan for or fear for that matter. Hopefully that changes on Thursday night. Precisely why I'd love Agholor, Perriman, or Dorsett in Charlotte because they bring things to the table that no one else on this roster does.

I'm also somehow someway more comfortable with Oher, Martin, Remmers + any mid round rookies being a serviceable tackle unit than I am Cotchery being a number two in this offense yet again. If that happens, we once again see a lack of big plays, we see Kelvin being doubled or defended by #1 corners, the focus heavy on Olsen, and a struggle to pick up third and longs in the passing game.

We can only hope the teams that missed out on the WR class last year try to make up for it this year. Would aid in having a solid OT or defensive prospect fall.

At this point I'm actually getting tried of not getting Cam weapons. .

Yeah, Gettleman said the WR class was deeper this year but he also said that he thinks last year's class would prove to be unique. I'm assuming he meant unique in terms of elite talent.

I think you're onto something here. It is a deep class. But it also has quite a few great talents at the top of the board and throughout back half of the first/second. I think Dorsett and Smith, as late first or early second round talents, bring some elite traits to the board in speed and the ability to get vertical and track the deep ball. Big play potential is a premium in the NFL.

    • He can say what he feels, but he's not saying "the previous year, the team wasn't very good" he directly called his teammates out and in a way that is flat-out not true. "You are your record"? Oh ok, he's only had 3 winning seasons, but in my mind he isn't a loser, and I bet he isn't in his either - cause football is a team sport and wins and losses are on the team, even when one really bad player (Jimminy Pickles) can basically screw over everything.  And this comes on the heels of his thing about the MVP, which is fine, but also selfish. His teammates consistently went to bat for him... Just feels like he's more about himself.
    • Good point--I think this draft is great for us at this time--At the top of the draft, the DT (DEs/NTs in 3-4) are loaded.  The Edges are deep.  We need to double dip there--hoping to move back so we can add three players to that pool.  In free agency, if I were Morgan, I would focus on DBs and  ILB--fix the back end of the defense.  If he signed a S, CB, ILB, and TE, it would be cost effective.  In the draft, DE, Edge, and WR should be the priorities.  After that, OL Depth, QB depth, DB depth, RB depth.  My Free agent Targets:  TE: Juwan Johnson, Saints.  29, had over 500 yards with Saints. S: Julian Blackmon, Colts.  He will be one of the top free agents--gonna cost us, but not like an edge or WR. ILB: Tyrel Dodson, Dolphins.  80 tackles on just 854 snaps--under 27 years of age. CB: Mike Jackson, Carolina.  He is 28 and had 3 picks and was on the field at all times.  68 PFF score. NT:  best available for Evero's system.
