For those of you who get mad when Thursday's pick is Perriman...or whoever ***grin***

Here is an article by Panthers.com's Joe Menzer that should give you a reason to keep your trap shut about a pick, at least until you start seeing some results.  The Panthers have a history of "hitting on the ones", and Dave Gettleman has continued that history with some great picks.

"People will tell you the draft is throwing darts," Gettleman said. "Sometimes it is. But if you don't do your homework, you've got no chance. What it is, is it's educated guessing. But you have to decrease your margin of error as much as you can. And the only way you're going to be able to do that is if you've done your homework.

Gettleman and company certainly do their homework, and thus far he has not only made great first round selections, but second round selections as well, and even the third (last year), fourth and the fifth.  This being the case, you have no reason to go crazy because he picked a guy that you deem is not worth it, because you are not privy to the information that he is privy to, nor are you as an accurate predictor of a first round pick's ability to succeed (or lack thereof) as Dave Gettleman.  You're not even as good as  Hurn Dawg, if you admit the truth, so no need to act like an ass or have your mouth turned down on Thursday. The Panthers have essentially given you every reason to believe in their first round picks for the lion's share of the team's existence, including the current (arguably) 14 year streak.  You might be able to argue with the picks due to what you believe priorities are, but you certainly can't argue with the fact that any of them have been outright misses.  We've gotten some good football players for the most part, really the only problem being injury (which bites every team in the ass here and there).

Lastly, here is another tidbit of Gettleman's draft philosophy. It may not help you much because, like I said, you don't have the access that he has, but it could possibly lead you in the right direction.  Of course a guy has to have the skill/upside to have a first round grade (or any round grade), but then he has to have that hate-to-lose mentality.

"Who doesn't like to win? We've got to find the guys who hate to lose. There is a difference there. I know it sounds crazy, but you've got to find that guy who absolutely hates to lose, who absolutely wants to be the best. And those guys will overcome."

Dave basically just came out of the closet and professed his love for Cam.

Going to give gettie more than two years GM drafting experience and see how his players end up after more than a single year playing before putting all my faith in him. Not to mention how he handles up coming contracts and more cap. Still a couple years away from a team fielded by gman, nothing to see yet.

Lotulelei and Benjamin aren't going anywhere. They are quality football players who made an immediate impact, and have the ability to get better.  I don't think that anyone can dispute that.

You should get Perriman out of your head dawg. I wouldn't be mad with it but I don't see anyway it happens.

Sure the odds are against it, but I'd love it just to see how the Huddle melts down.  To be honest, I am not going to discount him, but it's all going to depend upon how the cards fall.  I was thinking that Shane Ray had a good chance, but now...I am going with D.J. Humphries, with still a trade up in the second to nab a receiver.

14 year streak yeah right I mean I know we're good but come on no one has a streak like that:

'14  Kelvin Benjamin

'13  Star Lotulelei

'12  Luke Kuechly

'11  Cam Newton

'10  None

'09  None

'08  Jeff Otah

'08  Jonathan Stewart

'07  Jon Beason

'06  DeAngelo Williams

'05  Thomas Davis

'04  Chris Gamble

'03  Jordan Gross

'02  Julius Peppers

'01  Dan Morgan

That is pretty damn impressive.  I absolutely stand corrected.  It almost seems impossible that we weren't better than we were.
