Jean Sifrin - Give him a shot...

I hadn't seen this guy discussed much on the boards... Rightfully so, probably, because a lot of us aren't really looking at 27 year old late round TE prospects...

But, I have had a hard time not loving everything about this kid.

His story, in a nutshell:

He's never had a real father figure. He dropped out of high school to start working. He got his GED 3 months later. He worked pretty hard and ended up having a son. He decided that he was always going to be there for his son, unlike his own father. He sparked some interest playing flag football and started getting some pretty heavy looks from bigger universities. He ends up having some technical issues with college and ends up back home and working and looking after his son. He gets some more interest and ends up playing a year for UMass and posts some solid numbers. He runs slow at the combine (4.84), hurting his stock a lot. He shaved it down a little to 4.75 at his pro day. He's 27 years old, 6'5", and 243 lbs.

He's raw as hell, but I've had a hard time finding much to not like about him other than measurables.

He has good hands and a big frame, and is hard to bring down.

Definitely worth a look in a later round.

I'll be pulling for him wherever he ends up. He seems like a good dude and a hard worker, and a good dad.

I'm pulling for him sure, but I wouldn't want to spend anything more than a 7th on a raw 27 year old. By the time he's ready he only has a couple years left and we already have two TE's we like for 3 more years on the roster.

I'm sure he's going to get drafted somewhere in the later rounds and I wish him the best of luck, but I hope it's not us that drafts him.  I just don't think he'd be an upgrade over Dickson at #2 and if we're going to go with a different development TE at #3 other than Swole Bones, then I'd rather find someone quite a bit younger than 27.

We don't really have a roster spot for him with Olsen and Dickson locked up for a while and Swole being our "project" who's shown a lot of promise. As a 7th rounder or UDFA to compete in camp, then sure. But anything else I wouldn't spend on him.

He's got talent and will get a shot, but he's got a lot to learn. Dickson is the same age and has 6 years in the league. He'll make a practice squad maybe, while they try to get him up to speed on how to play TE. I hope he makes it.

He may be a few year project, but a good one at that.  Denver knew that with Thomas (who isn't known for his work ethic) and it worked out for them while he was in mile high.  Good thread :thumbs up:

The big differences being that Thomas was bigger, faster, and a lot younger.  He's a year younger than Sifrin.

Yeah the basketball background helped him out.  They're similar in size but Thomas was more athletic and well younger.  May not have been the most ideal comparison but the guy could be a decent UDFA grab.
