Thomas Davis Honors

Its The Milk

2005 was a long time ago, and I'm not so sure TD was drafted to replace Spoon. Spoon was Will while TD was a Sam until the Meeks years.

TD was drafted because he had the speed to contain Vick, who had completely dominated us to that point.

Despite your claim that half his career was spent on IR, he has been very dependable the last 4 years

42 games in 10 years, a number that includes missing 30 of 32 games in 2010 and 2011

Mobile QBs are the new thing and standard. Stick with what wirks i guess...shaq thompson

From 2005:

SS/OLB Thomas Davis (Georgia)
Vital statistics: 6 foot 1, 230 pounds, 4.52 in the 40.
Numbers game: In high school, played eight positions, including quarterback at one point. As a redshirt freshman and in his sophomore season, alternated between safety and strong-side linebacker. Played in 39 games, starting 29, and had 272 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 10½ sacks, 27 pressures, three interceptions, nine passes defensed, six forced fumbles and nine recoveries. Blocked two punts and returned one for a score. Also scored a touchdown on an interception return. A consensus All-American and all-SEC in 2004 and a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award.
Upside: Incredible, freaky size, and moves well for such a big man. Explosive tackler who hits with a naturally rising action and drives through in textbook fashion. Can really de-cleat a ball carrier or receiver and is always looking for the knockout hit. Will put the fear of God in anyone who crosses through his zone. Good lateral quickness and closing speed. Tough and nasty and plays with passion. Loves the game and competes hard on every snap.
Downside: Kind of an in-between player, and some teams still aren't sure whether he is a safety or a weak-side linebacker. A little tight in the hips and doesn't always take good angles in pursuit. Not a great change-of-direction defender. Does not show great range, even when sitting back in a zone, and can't play single coverages. At times, a flat-out liability in pass coverage. Not exactly a ballhawk.
The dish: Size-speed ratio is jaw-dropping, and his lights-out hitting style is compelling. He's a certain first-rounder, perhaps in the top half of the round, but the team that takes him is going to have to design things so that he plays in the box, where he should be a huge component in stopping the run.

Thomas Davis is Da Man.  Ring of Honor for sure.

As long as he doesn't do something stupid and/or illegal, he's done enough already to earn a statue. He is to this Panthers team what Sam Mills was in the 1990s.

If the standards for a statue are so high that you feel TD doesn't deserve one, then nobody will ever be good enough to earn one.

The readons for erecting a statue for me is through the roof. Sam Mills died as a member of the basis for what it is to be a Panther at heart and soul. I certainly think TD is really close to having that honor, bit Sam Mills died doon after being the heart and soul of our franchise.

TD as NFL man of the year is uncharted territory as a Panther...does it Garner a statue? Look around the league and see which nFL men of the year have garnered statues. That'll give us a better look af the standard for which statues are built.

The only problem here is that TD has spent half his career on IR. Being the NFL Man of the year is super special, definitely belongs in the Panthers Ring of Fame but a statue may be a stretch.

Dont want to ruffle feathers, but if he can string together a few more seasons like this past one and stay commited to exemplifying all that one can be as an NFL player, that statue may be forthcoming.

Luke is well on his way to being a Hall of Famer...he's got a better chance of a statue right now.

Shaq Thompson and continue the tradition.

I think that it is rather telling that you manage to high-jack a TD thread, to hype up Shaq once again. We get it. You love you some Shaq. I just think it has blinded you to what is going on around you.

Stating that TD has spent "Half his career on IR", should pretty much tell me your depth of knowledge in regards to TD, and how desperate you are to make Shaq sound like an actual need.

You don't think TD deserves a statue. Fine, I am just not sure stretching the truth is a good way to go about making your point.

by the line of thinking, sam mills should not have a statue. He spent a total of 3 years on the playing field for us. T.d. truly exemplifies the keep pounding spirit. With no question he should have statue.

Again, man of the year is rare and beautiful. TD is a dedicated man and football...definitely a man among men.

Statue worthy? debateable.

I mean, we hold onto Witherspoon, we never draft TD. We hold onto Beadon,...we never draft Kuechly.

Just glad he is the man he is and r

the player he has become.

Ring of Honor for sure.

This is all wrong, brother. If you're going to state "facts" make sure they're right.
