Shaq Thompson profootballfocus #most overrated player.

My stance is that I like the kid and would live with it he we got him...but if we want a starting SS, I'd prefer Tartt, Collins, or Russell.  If we're talking an OLB that can play both Sam and Will, there's too many to count.  I guess I don't see the athletic freak people talk him up to be but its also why I'm not a scout.

PFF starting talking positively about Keek and changed their tune on him last season FWIW.

Most of their Kuechly overrated talk in 2013 was in reference to him winning DPOY over JJ Watt who they basically think is a god(which has some merit). It's not like they ever didn't have him has one of if not the best MLB in the NFL that year. Patrick Willis may have been ahead of him, but it's hardly like they were haters.

Concerning for sure.

I don't want Shaq in the 1st, but was on board with him in the 2nd. If the coaches think they can help him, not to mention learning from TD and Luke, then I'm good with the pick. He's a playmaker, and if given the chance to mostly force turnovers his first couples years until TD retires, I'd be excited while he learns how to play the position better. He's a guy who has always wore different hats on the field. Primarily focusing on one position? Maybe those numbers improve.

As someone on the Shaq hater bandwagon, I'd still take him the 2nd round if he was there and a couple other guys weren't. Pretty much all his negatives(not great instincts, can't shed blocks) are in the run game. His coverage is damn near immaculate for a LB and this is a passing league.

As for the different positions thing, that's really a misconception. He only played 1 game at safety in his entire career with a few cameos at RB. He has always been an LB.

This i'm ok with. I just dont want him in the first. But my preference would be to go offense first two picks to help cam.

We pick at #25. Everybody still on the board is going to have flaws. What is dumb about that article is that they decided to profile the flaws of a bunch of guys not expected to go top 15. Obviously all the guys not expected to go Top 15 have flaws. Dumb to include them on that list. They should have just picked 10 of the prospects expected to go Top 15 and pointed out their flaws. They did that with Trae Waynes and Brandon Scherff. Arik Armstead and Bud Dupree aren't consensus Top 15 picks. And none of the other 6 guys they list are close to Top 15 picks. Very lazy job, but they probably just slapped it together in 5 minutes

another thing to note is the only problem they have with Shaq is his instincts against the run as a LB. If Shaq had Luke Kuechly-level instincts, Shaq would be a Top 15 pick. But fortunately for us he doesn't, which means he could likely fall to us.

Here's what Gary Horton (ESPN.com) wrote:

"Instincts/Recognition: Flashes playmaking instincts. ... a quarter-count late with his reads too often. Also can be slow with ball reaction at times ... Key and diagnose skills should continue to improve with more game experience "

Unlike Landon Collins (subpar athlete/subpar coverage skills), Shaq is an elite athlete with elite coverage skills who just needs to be coached up. If there is one thing Rivera-coached teams are good at, it is coaching up defensive players. Shaq would be a perfect pick for a Rivera-coached team.
